Afternoon chaps.
Not had much time for the poor old thrash thread recently. Haha, I did have a chuckle the other day. I bought a S.O.D. DVD for cheap. The best thing about the whole DVD is seeing Billy Milano in a Skeleton mask, smoking a cigar, falling into the crowd, hitting a fan on the head with a microphone and then getting back on stage.
What a fat twat

It's kind of hard to find new thrash for me lately. And it sucks, because that always causes me to lose interest in the genre, and then I finally go back and remember how good all the old stuff is.

There are many bands from back in the day that I haven't checked out yet. Problem is, that much of the old-school stuff I've got a hold of lately has sucked. I find with old-school Death Metal you can download something from a band who only had a couple of demos and an EP (not even that) and you can still get some really good quality stuff, on the other hand the Thrash scene was wayyy too over-crowded by '88-'89 or so.
But then I listen to Bonded By Blood and realise just why life is worth living.
Also, I have zero interest in these retro Thrash bands anymore.
Nepenthe
10-12-2006, 01:42 AM
Yeah that's what I mean, most obscure thrash bands are obscure for a reason, and I don't think I've ever heard a good thrash band formed after the mid 90s.
Apocalyptic Raids
10-12-2006, 01:44 AM
Yeah, that's true. It's almost the opposite with the Scandanavian DM scene. Obviously bands like Dismember, Demigod etc are well known for a reason too, but then you get Abhorrence for example, who only did a demo and an EP, and are absolutly fantastic.
At least we got some good thrash albums post '95.

Reunited British thrashers SABBAT will release remastered versions of their first two albums — "History of a Time to Come" (1988) and "Dreamweaver" (1989) — sometime next year via Sanctuary. "We've made a small bit of progress on this one," stated guitarist Andy Sneap. "I've been speaking to Sanctuary about reissues, and it looks as though we are doing remastered versions of 'History' and 'Dreamweaver', with a few bonus bits if possible. They (Sanctuary) have the multi-tracks to the first album and the live show in Berlin from the video, so again, possiblities there, and the BBC also has the session we did digitally archived."

666wic probably got shut down by their hosts, that's what happened last time anyway. I don't care that much anyway, I have found myself using that site less and less lately, and the community there are a bunch of Europeans who could barely type proper English and had broken caps lock keys. I would search if it were still up, but one thread there went:
"ARE THERE ANYONE WHO REGRETS THE OLD DEATH METAL SCENE FROMT HE 1989 TO 1993??
ANYONE INTRESTED OLD SCHOOL DEATH SHITS????"
I mean this dude had great taste in Death Metal but he typed like a ****ing retard.
I am not exaggerating, either.
I've got something by the Japanese Sabbat but to be honest I've never really listened to it. I remember it being Black/Thash style stuff.

I think Bewitched take their Mercyful Fate and Maiden influences to make something which might not be ultra-original, but it's definitely got more character of it's own than most retro-styled bands. They are one of the few "retro" bands I like alot.
and it's a side project anyway, so that's why the band probably isn't too concerned with being original and are just doing it for fun more than anything.

Josh you are silly. Consuming Impulse has fantastic production, especially for a Death Metal band in 1989. Sure it doesn't sound as good as Left Hand Path and Cause of Death but how many DM albums do?
and they didn't have the luxury of having a quality studio which was pretty much exclusively for extreme Metal bands like the Floridia bands did.
