The first 2 albums are sheer punk to the bone. When Crossover came out they became the hybrid of Metal/Punk and then came more into the Thrash obviously with Thrash Zone.

Go! Don't be late...last one out! of! the! starting gate! Or something along those lines.

As far as Danzig goes, I've always had a soft spot for their music, for some reason. Danzig I and Danzig II - Lucifuge are classics for me.

****ing Slayer! :thumb:

I think the main reason why people don't like newer Slayer is because Kerry King wrote most of the music for the last 2 CD's and Kerry seems to idolize Slipknot and seems to be trying to make Slayer more Slipknot-esque kind of stuff. Which I myself can't really hear. But on GHUA they did tune all the way down to drop B and played some not-so Slayer riffage.

And I was wondering if anyone could recommend any other bands with this sort of guitar playing, it reminds me of old metallica (really tight barely distorted chunk).

I don't know if it's quite what you're looking for but maybe try Helstar. Nosferatu is the only one I've got but it's really good technical thrash (basically the only technical music I'm very interested in :p) and the playing is really tight.

Blasting-Zone.com: What are your current touring plans?
Cronos: "Quite a lot, actually. We've always believed that people didn't want see VENOM if we didn't have the show. It just seems that so many people's opinions have changed because there are some many places where VENOM has never been. Not all of our fans can travel a thousand ****in' miles to come see us. It just seems so odd that after twenty five years, there a just so many places that we've never even been. It's time for us to open our ears and take in a little bit of what's going on around us. We've got a lot of festival dates lined up and of course we're gonna do all the pyro and the whole shebang, but I think we should also try to do some of these other concerts as well, just to see how it goes. Some kid who can barely afford the price of the ticket can't come a long way to come see us. We're gonna try to get the best of both worlds when it comes to playin' live. One of the things that has been getting' talked about is a tour of the States with VENOM, SLAYER and EXODUS. How cool would that be? When people start talkin' about things like that, things they haven't seen in forever, we're just like, 'Get SLAYER on the phone so we can set it up...'"

Apocalyptic Raids
03-11-2006, 08:31 PM
Metal-Archives says 5 tracks. The version I downloaded has 8 tracks.

The extra tracks are the Intro, Outro and the Outro to Witching Metal.

I don't know what to think of the new Sodom song I heard. It has a really cool dark atmosphere in parts, but it's mid-paced and the riffs aren't that great, it also has quite a few time changes and really good drumming. The intro owns though, great acoustic stuff.

This is only one song though. I want to hear the rest.

Here is what some guy who has heard the whole thing said

The production is very good and clear, definately not digital/pro tools. I thik this is a major step up from the sometimes mushy sound of some previous albums. Bobby's drumsound has improved a lot! no cardboard box sounding bassdrums and no uncontrolled hi hat anymore! The guitar tone is less distorted and clearer, sounds tighter than ever before. Tom's basssound varies between his early distorted sound and his later clean sound dependent on the song. The vocals have never been so diverse, most of the time it's just good old Tom but he tries to add different accents here and there which is a very good thing IMO. The songwriting is the best I have heard from SODOM, they didn't just try to make an "M-16" ripoff but like always just went their own way which I thik is what kept them alive and still relevant after all these years. I would dare say this is the most progressive album SODOM has ever done and it's hard to compare it to any of their older albums.

Reunited San Francisco Bay Area thrashers LAAZ ROCKIT have posted the following message on their official web site, www.laazrockit.com.

"LAAZ ROCKIT is pleased to announce the upcoming release of their official DVD. It will feature rare old footage as well as new live footage of the band along with other cool stuff. We hope to have it in stores world wide in May 2006. It will also be available for purchase on the web site. The band is really excited about this release and hope that everyone will enjoy it as much as they do. Stay posted for release date."

LAAZ ROCKET, formed in 1982, were a mainstay in the Bay Area thrash scene for nine years. In May 2005, the original lineup reunited for the first time since 1991 to play two shows with TESTAMENT, including the prestigious Dynamo Open Air festival in Holland. Their appearance at the Thrash Against Cancer benefit concert in July 2005 was their first U.S. show in over 14 years.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Los Angeles thrashers HIRAX will release their first DVD, "Thrash Til Death", on April 25 through Black Devil Records.

"Thrash Til Death" features over two hours of live footage — the complete set from Minneapolis Mayhem 2, plus bonus footage from shows played in Germany (Bang Your Head Festival and warm-up show), Sweden (Sweden Rock Festival), The Netherlands (Dokk 'Em Open Air Festival), and San Francisco (Tidal Wave Festival and Thrash of the Quintana (KUSF 23rd anniversary show at The Pound SF).

The tracks compiled on this visual anthology span HIRAX's entire career and were filmed using professional cameras, multiple camera angles, and high-quality audio. The DVD also contains an interview with the entire band, "Hostile Territory" promo clip, a full visual discography including liner notes and artwork (by Pushead, "Mad" Marc Rude, and Craig Cummings), and even an Easter egg (hidden concert footage from Fender's Ballroom in 1985).

"We are very excited about the DVD," said singer Katon W. De Pena. "It contains some of the most amazing performances the band has done up until this point. I wanted it to be something that HIRAX diehards as well as any fan of extreme metal would be proud to own. As a matter of fact, this DVD was compiled and edited by a huge metal fan, Eddie Boyd (aka 'Sickthrash'), who has been collecting thrash memorabilia since the beginning."

"Thrash ‘Til Death" will be available through Century Media distribution as well as Black Devil Records. European and South American distribution is in the works.

HIRAX is currently in the preproduction stage for their upcoming album "Assassins Of War". Joining vocalist Katon W. De Pena are original HIRAX drummer Johnny Tabares, lead guitarist Lance Harrison, and bassist Steve Harrison.

Yar! So I was having a good think about Thrash yesterday. Not been in here for ages, it seems to be going slower than OJ's trial. Anyway, enough of that. I saw the chat on riffs and thought about Sodom riffs... or breaks, as some uneducated fools call them. So give us some breaks that break the neck...

Sodom - The Crippler (1:59)
Tankard - Chains (1:53)
Vio-lence - Calling in the Coroner (2:22)
Kreator - Pleasure To Kill (1:58)
Anthrax - A.I.R. (3:43)
Hobbs Angel of Death - Brotherhood (1:55)

More spring to mind, but I can't be arsed thinking. So what's new with everyone anyway? I know this is the Thrash thread, but we basically used to have our own community thread, so speak up.

Apocalyptic Raids
03-22-2006, 05:11 AM

Tech Thrash is really the only kind of extremely technical music that interests me beyond an artist here or there. No More Color is great, I'd highly recommend it, personally.

Don't take tech-thrash the wrong way, it's still great thrash just with crazy over the top riffs and solos. If you like Watchtower or Sabbat or anything you'll probably like them a lot.

It seems there a few new clips of Get Thrashed.

I had forgotten about this project.

Oh yeah, I saw that earlier. I'm suprised they are still continuing with it. Wasn't it supposed to be released back in late '04?

NP: Necromnomicon - Possessed Again

Apocalyptic Raids

I think it was supposed to be late '04, then it was early '05, then it was late '05 etc etc

FatalEnergy
04-10-2006, 12:48 AM
Yeah, everyone was looking forward to it, but now that everyone has forgotten about it I don't really see a point in going on with it.

I just wrote a review, be on the lookout for it.

Apocalyptic Raids

Nice review. I still need more early Destruction :(

FatalEnergy
04-10-2006, 01:05 AM
Which Destruction albums don't you have?

Apocalyptic Raids
04-10-2006, 01:15 AM
Everything pre-RFA :(:(

I've been looking to buy them but they're never in store here.

I've got Live Without Sense, so I've got an idea what they sound like.

FatalEnergy
04-10-2006, 01:22 AM
The production on Live Without Sense helps the Pre-RFA songs a lot, but there's quite a few essential early songs that weren't on Live Without Sense like Total Desaster, Confused Mind, and The Ritual. I would recommend getting Infernal Overkill/Sentence of Death EP first, they usually come together. I hardly ever complain about production, but on Infernal Overkill the production seriously blows. That way when you get Eternal Devestation/Mad Butcher EP the production is better and stuff. I did the opposite and got ED/MBEP first so when I got IO/SoDEP I didn't appreciate it as much. Both are killer though. I had to order all of my Destruction albums, except for Inventor of Evil, because no one carries them around here. They would rather stock up on Slipknot albums.......fags!

Apocalyptic Raids
04-10-2006, 01:31 AM
Yeah, here they used to always have The Antichrist, but now the Destruction section is always empty.

Freezing Moon

At least you have a Destruction section!

Apocalyptic Raids
04-10-2006, 01:53 AM
Yeah, the place I shop at has had Seven Churches in stock for the last month. \m/

I've honestly never paid a whole lot of attention to Beyond The Gates.

So I got the Vio-lence live album. Man it owns, It's good to be able to hear the drums on the Eternal Nightmare songs, Strickland's drumming is really good on that album you just can't really hear the details :(

Mine too, there are only two Death albums, and the demos. Those two are Scream Bloody Gore and Leprosy. Everything else is unimportant and irrelevant. :)

I like some later Death :upset:

I prefer the old school stuff though.

Which Necronomicon should I get?

NP: Exumer - A Mortal In Black. Ehh.. I've tried to get into this album but there is nothing here that really keeps me coming back.

This Slaughter Lord you gave me is awesome. I've listened to the album about 3 times, but now I guess something's clicked and I'm really liking them.

Hobbs wins, cause he is mighty old and probably drinks VB on a regular occasion.

<3 andy.

From what I heard SKHM wasn't too bad.

and yeah, Slaughter Lord is good, though the production can be annoying.

I will be totally honest with you...im not a big destruction fan at all they have some good tunes but im not really massively into any of their stuff, having said that though the antichrist is a good album. Inventor of evil though is pretty poor if you ask me soul collector kicks *** but part from that its quite average that alliance of hellhoundz is absolute bollocks.

Cant wait to hear people's reactions to this :p

Apocalyptic Raids

I like Release From Agony, Live Without Sense and The Antichrist alot. I haven't heard much else. I like them.

Sodom are better though.

Saw the finished prod and JA killed it!!!!! All Vio-heads will be proud of the hard work , effort and time that Jerry and his crew put in.

On behalf of the band, I need to thank him for going above and beyond the call on this. You're the ****ing man and will get an ear-shattering endorsemnt from us for your future endeavours.

Also thanks to Ingrid, Josh, Swalen, Sanborn, DJ Will, Jerrys bro that came up with the commentary (Can't place the name dude, sorry but I wanted to get this up!)

We couldn't have put this out without the efforts of all above .

Thanks again and HELL YEAH!!!!! CAn't wait for you all to check it out.

Disc 1

"Blood and Dirt"

A 90 minute documentary on the history of Vio

Includes all kinds of wicked rare Vio clips and photos as well as interviews with everyone who was in the band, friends, managers, other bands, fans and etc, etc.

Disc 2

Thrash of the Titans (whole set)
Slims (half set)
420 show (one song)
The Stone (one song)

That equals close to 4 hours of Vio.
sounds great.

Haven't posted in the Thrash thread in ages....

But anyways, I've recently been listening to some Ulyssess Siren. Pretty sweet **** so far :). And yeh, Overkill still owns the Thrash scene IMO.

Apocalyptic Raids
04-18-2006, 09:43 PM
Ulysses Siren are fantastic. How a band like Defiance can get a record deal and they couldn't is just ****ing gay.

Overkill are pretty good, but I've never really liked them as much as most do. Although I did recently get Feel The Fire, which is easily the best Overkill I've heard.

Feel the Fire's still my favortie as well. The only Overkill record I've had a problem with is Relix IV, the rest I completely love. I haven't had a problem with anything else.
