I predict that Kreator will continue to **** around with the Gothenburg sound until their next European tour with Sodom or Destruction. Then they'll realize that what they've released in the past 3-4 years is horrible, trendy, unthrashy, garbage compared to what those two bands are doing.

They will then release an otherwise mediocre thrash album, and slowly get back to form.

I find a little weird that you are saying those kind of things, you listen a lot to thrash and Megadeth, it's like saying you are also wasting your time because there's way better music than that. You can't never waste your time doing something you like.

NOTE: I'm not saying that thrash is bad, but if we compare it with Classical, it will lose, In many aspects.

But metallica isn't mediocre, they are good.

Don't compare genres, it just doesn't work. Thrash and classical accomplish such different things musically, there's no point.

This isn't really a clan anymore bro, we just chill and talk about thrash and other stuff.

It works for musicians like C. Burton and M. Friedman.
So as you say, comparing genres is pointless, but in the end is all music.
And:
Videogames have different genres also. :p

exactly, like a thrash band they aren't that good, but as an overall band they are very good.

I agree. You hear bootlegs, see live tapes and realise that as they got older they achieved a level of professionalism unmatched by, really, any other metal bands. Then they tried playing a brand of hard rock they never really carved out properly. See how good the new songs on "Garage Inc" are and you realise that this is a band that needed a new songwriter circa 1991.

My bad. Yeah I did overdose on them. I moved on, yet still listen to the older material every once and a while. Only when I drink and play though.

I think ive listened to RTL and MoP so many times I can play them in my head.

I also go on the record earlier in the thread as saying there were only a dozen or so really worthy Metallica songs. I stand by that, but all their albums have something to offer at different times of day.

I don't tend to listen to them much anymore, because I know if I'm ever stranded at someone's house and need a fix of metal, they'll have Metallica :).

How would you compare them to someone, oh say, Testament?

I have a soft spot for Testament, because they introduced me into the lesser known thrash of the world. Even though they were labeled as "wiffle-thrash" or whatever, they still sounded different than everyone else. Everyone says they are Metallica ripoffs too, which is really not even a close comparison at all. Metallica ripoffs?......my ***. New Testament blows though, they haven't been great since Skolnick left. I'm one of the few people that like "The Ritual" and there is a few decent songs on Low.

ThrashMaster27
10-17-2005, 10:26 PM
How would you compare them to someone, oh say, Testament?

I suppose they both carry the 'average' Thrash band label. Testament are still better in my opinion and have always had far superior musicians.

I'd probably listen to Demonic over Act III. Well, maybe not.

I'd certainly listen to The Ultra-Violence over The New Order.

As far as the other albums both bands have but out, I think Testament would probably win that battle.

The Ultra-Violence > The New Order > The Legacy > Practice What You Preach > Low > The Art Of Dying > Souls Of Black > Frolic In The Park > The Ritual > The Gathering > Act III > Demonic.

I wanted to go see that show but alas, I got busy and now I'm unwilling to squeeze it in because I have no money...it's all going towards the new Fireball Ministry and Destruction albums...and maybe something else if I'm impressed.

As for the Testament post I asked...wow. I never expected such responses. Personally, I like Testament.

Okay, everyone try to find Fastkill's Metal Thrashing Holocaust, Paradox's Heresy, and Stormwarrior's self-titled album.

The Fastkill is great Japanese thrash with excellent riffs; some of you may already have stuff by them. Paradox: Think early Testament + Agent Steel and weak Belladonna-ish vocals. The guitarists are quite the shredders as well, and the songs move along nicely where they don't get boring. Finally, Stormwarrior's self-titled is awesome speed metal much like Gamma Ray and early Helloween, just I think it's better (they even covered 'Heavy Metal Is The Law').

What does everyone think of Dark Angel's "Darkness Descends?" I think it's alright, but really nothing special.

I totally agree with you.

We seem to get this question every now and then.

Paradox: Think early Testament + Agent Steel and weak Belladonna-ish vocals.

That sounds like... really really, really really really really, REALLY bad. I think I'll save myself some trouble and not bother here.

I like Inventor of Evil aswell. Not as good as The Antichrist, but still pretty decent. What you in a good mood about? Just got laid?

Yeah, so Dismember on sat. Should be a lot of fun. What's happened to that homosexual Jon? Seems to have disappeared.

I'm surprised Face liked it a lot. I can't get enough of it either.

ThrashMaster is right though. It's no Antichrist, but it still ****ing kicks major *** compared to a lot of the stuff coming out today.

The metalcore bands need to listen to this record.

I actually had to listen to it twice. The first time I listened to it I was like "Uhhh.....it's okay", but the second time through I was like "Wait.......this rules"

Yeh Death Angel and Anthrax are very close in sound IMO

Speaking of which, does anybody see any similarities between Megadeth and Witchery? I don't know why, but when I first heard them, I thought "Megadeth"...

Go for the follow-up to that album, Blocked Minds. If you're into technical stuff, try out Negatives.

Ryan is feeling neglected :upset:

If it wasn't for Ryan's umm...Heroes of Thrash threads, I wouldn't have learned about Mekong Delta or Festering Sore.

Depending on how WAY back, I probably wasn't around to see the recommendation. Unfortunate, because I wish I had known about them earlier. They're great. :)
