I just bought Kreator's Coma of Souls, I was going to purchase Pleasure To Kill, but it wasn't there. So I decided to get it. GET THIS, after I bought it, I was browsing around the "local band" section and then as I was walking out I saw the "imported" and for 20 bucks was a Mekong Delta CD, the one with that corpse playing the violin. If I had more money I would have purchased it, I might have to get it tomorrow.

How do you like Coma Of Souls?

That would have been The Music Of Erich Zann which you saw. RCA considers it Mekong Delta's best, so I would pick it up.

Dances of Death has the corpse playing the violin. Music of Erich Zann has the wierdo bloke playing the violin. I'd say both are worth getting no matter which one it is :thumb:

I've been listening to loads of Slayer! And Lamb Of God, they're excellent. Not sure if they're thrash though. No, they ain't. What are they? On the whole I'm much more a fan of Death than Thrash though.

Why do people like Megadeth? I can't stand them!!! I like Slayer, and Metallica (not nearly as much as I used to though, haven't listened to tham in a while). But why are Megadeth considered on a par with these bands? I just don't flipping get it... could someone explain to me why they are so loved by thrashers?

Laid To Rest is a surprisingly easy song to play! The instrumental title track "Ashes Of The Wake" has some bloomin' hard solos in it though. I can play the riffs (some of those are a bit tricky too) but the solos make me die. "Hourglass" is wicked as well. Hmm, I just got the tabs for "Angel of Death" and "Raining Blood" to add to my Slayer Repertoire ;) Though I've no chance of playing them solos....

11th Hour.. what a song. That into riff with the double kick makes me murder civilians.

Ahhh.....slayer. 'Auschwitz, the meaning of pain, the way that I want you to die'

See, that's one of the reasons why I don't listen to Slayer right there. And yes, I know, Tom didn't have any actual racist intentions when writing it, but being from a family that was heavliy decimated during the holocaust, that song really does disturb me.

And while I do not condone censorship, I do believe that they went too far on this one. It's one thing to write songs with the intention of giving people a fright, or to create and eerie mood, but that's really just tasteless.

Actually, I rather like "Slaughter Of The Soul". Yeah, and I like "Heartwork" by Carcass. And yes, I'm a BIG fan of "St. Anger"(Not really). Why are people such musical snobs? As soon as something is popular, you don't like it anymore.

If Lamb of God aren't thrash (I accept that, I'm not really sure what they are) and you guys don't like Slayer, what would you say are the best thrash bands? I'm guessing anything Metallica did post Black Album isn't "thrash".

In fact, Helloween aren't thrash, are they?

Thrash influenced =/= thrash

No doubt, man, people need to realize that. Just because you're influenced by something doesn't mean you're playing that particular genre.

The Haunted- closer to melodic death.

Lamb of God- kinda groove-ish (NOT metalcore)

Shadows Fall- ehh...metalcore's a sketchy word for them...I just consider them straight up metal.

But those three bands defenitely are not thrash. If any kid who is "new" to the wonderful world of thrash reads this, these three bands are thrash:

Sodom

Kreator

Saxon

Download a few songs by those three bands and then listen to Lamb of God, The Haunted, and Shadows Fall. Then compare the thrash-itude.

By the way, I'm not downing those three bands, I love Lamb of God, The Haunted, AND Shadows Fall. But I know enough to know that they are not thrash.

I agree. All of the arguements are becoming the same and we have about 5 newbies who cannot type or think a single coherent thought.

On Coroner Mistress Of Deception is 'the' track off No More Colour-just. A fantastic ripping album by the most underrated thrash band of all time.

An excellent track indeed.

I wouldn't call them the most under-rated of all time though.

I don't know if their the most underrated, there's loads of great thrash bands that your average metal fan overlooks.

Crap, I just got soy milk in my escape key. Oh yeah, soy milk is metal. \m/

What a coincidence, I spilled soymilk all over my keyboard yesterday, and I was dumb and didn't think it would be too bad. Now my keyboard is sticky and smells bad.

Soymilk is metal, I haven't had a glass of the real stuff in years.

Well Coroner as one of the most unrecognised Thrash bands.
Who are the other contenders.

Well Coroner as one of the most unrecognised Thrash bands.

Most bands outside of the big 6, the German trio, and Overkill, and a few others.

Blunt

Shadows Fall, not thrash, I guess it depends on how you define thrash.
And after recently seeing a Saxon video, that is not thrash, Spinal Tap inspired metal at times. But maybe it was just a bad show

So Kreator, Sodom and Destruction I guess...

Well Overkill, sure , are Exodus in the big 6 ?

Anacrusis anyone?

So Anacrusis does not count?

Well hey brilliant band, a little insane to be sure with Nardi's shrieking but I would argue a great thrash band with some albeit quirky Pink Floydisms going on.

What about Anacrusis? I'm talking about how he's calling The Haunted thrash.

Anacrusis is pretty good, except I don't like the singing much.

Ugh.

It's really starting to piss me off how everyone thinks The Haunted is thrash now a days. They have one of the worst names for a band ever, even though that's kind of besides the fact they suck

Anacrusis's First album was pretty decent thrash, nothing too special, but after that I wouldn't really call them thrash anymore.

Oh I see. Well One Kill Wonder was pretty much Slayer worship n the riffing department. Didn't really grab me but it was basically thrash. Have not heard the latest which by most accounts is not thrash.

Believer- I do believe I still own a copy of that. Have to revisit.

To me, labelling what is what is just a pain in the *** nowadays.

You have the basic standard bands that are trying to look emo, but sound like a cross between In Flames and a random old Hardcore vocal style. Then you have their fans who are like "OmG dIz **** iz s000 HARDc0rE!!1111111111111"

I don't get it. What's really so great about that music? Personally, I think it's not a sin for these kids to like this music, but when it pops up like the bubonic plague, it's like "geez, this just seems like people want to be popular and follow the bandwagon."

However, I do like a lot of variety. It doesn't hurt to like the European metal though. At least the original sources that started the idea before everyone and their dog went and turned it into a regurgitated thing are good. Well to me they are.

Then again, I'm not that big on Soilwork, In Flames or The Haunted. I do like Arch Enemy...XD

/guilty pleasure.

So there you have it, I just admitted something I shouldn't have.

However, I never mentioned the part about labelling. Too much labelling...>_<

Gives me a headache because all the noobies whine when you tell them what you think it is.

Sad that you can't get any respect for you opinion anymore. Or so it seems.

I'm pretty sure in 5 years (maybe less) time, the whole metalcore/post-hardcore thing will have died out, its just a question of where popular rock/metal will go from there.

That's probably true. Just like how Hair Metal died.

I usually listen to the whole thing and start speeding faster than what I should be, sometimes turning right when there's a car nearing the intersection.

Sometimes I pass by teh cops going like over the speed limit and they just look at me like
