What's your favorite? Mine as of right now is probably The Spectre Within, but I've only heard that one, Awaken The Guardian, and Parallels.

My Favorite is actually the album right after Awaken the Guardian, which is 1988's No Exit. Definatley the thrashiest Fates Warning album

I have a problem with sleep on the weekdays. I tend to try to sleep before 10 since I live a half hour by streets to school, and I drive myself so I have to beat the rush hour traffic and the clock and be there before 8, so I have to get up at 6, be out by 7, and I take forever to knock out lately so I sometimes wake up half asleep >_<

Yeah same here. For me its either 5+ hours or nothing, I feel incomplete if I don't get through the whole of what I need to practice. Like 3-4 of that is technique, 1 on new material, and 1 on writing and theory and ear.

I've got it down to a way where I don't lose interest either. I don't have the longest attention span, but I'll practice for 50 minutes then take a 10 minute break, rinse and repeat. Plus my leg starts falling asleep after that long too.

Evening comrades.

Been a productive week for myself, as I've purchased about 8 CD's this week. Strangely, none of them were Thrash. Anyway, I came in here to ask a question. I was looking through the RR Catalogue thing for 2005-2006 and I noticed they had one of their double album things for a band called Gang Green.

Question is, has anyone actually heard them? Cause on the page it had 'For fans of: D.R.I. and Tankard' so that bit interested me quite a bit. So yeah, any info would be appreciated.

'Schizo Deluxe' is what a lot of metal fans have been screaming at me to give them this time: brutal guitar riffs and solos, second-to-none musicianship and back-to-the-roots thrash/heavy metal metal songwriting."

There's certainly a Nu-Metal feel on Reinventing The Steel. When a Nu-Metal fan comes into the room and goes "Man, is this Slipknot?" you know it's a bad thing. Still, I enjoy a lot of Pantera's music, so it's hardly a concern for myself.

Now, I love Petrucci as much as I love Loomis, they're both great guitarists, but I guess it has a lot to do with stage presence. I mean, don't get me wrong, Dream Theater is a great band, awesome musicianship, but boring as hell to watch live. The stuff about whiffle-thrash was in my Exodus thread.

Whiffle thrash, as practiced by bands like Sacred Reich and a thousand others, combines leftist-political and personal-violence lyrics with slightly weakened riffage, and a generally more poppy and upbeat production. While at times the work is still extremely enjoyable (Anthrax's "State of Euphoria"), there is also a huge potential for self-parody (Sacred Reich, "The American Way", Testament "Practice What You Preach"), and these efforts are not nearly as rotten-to-the-core as the thrash genre's evil progenitors: Slayer, Dark Angel, Kreator, etc etc...

Artillery are great. There's no album to steer clear of with them. B.A.C.K. is probably their weakest album, but it's still a cracker.

Oh yeah, has anybody ever heard Intruder - Live To Die, cause I like their other 2 albums a lot and was wondering if anybody would have/know how to get it. Psycho Savant has the best cover ever, it even beats the Razor covers.

NP: Rigor Mortis - Chained In The Attic

Razor covers? As in Intruder covered Razor?

EDIT: Nevermind, you mean album covers, like artwork. :p

I saw Megadeth about 8 or 9 months ago, on thier first show since they started up again and they ruled, but at Gigantour which I saw about two months ago they were pretty weak. Well, actually it was just Dave that was weak, everyone else kicked much ***

You'd still agree it's a great thing Dave's playing as Megadeth again though?

I know what you mean, I haven't got a good nights sleep since summer, even on the weekends something happens and I have to get up early or when I don't want to, but hey.....I saw Overkill and met Blitz, so I'm going to rub that in everyones face even though no one cares :)

Sounds good. Take your time, man. I understand how multi-tasking and hardly any rest can be. Even though I'm a senior this year, it's still a bitch with the whole "applying to colleges" thing on top of our crappy school's administration going insane and the Deans losing their minds too.

I just hope I don't **** up in any classes this year. o.o;

Good luck with it all :chug: We're here (well I know I check in every day) to help take that load of your back.

Isn't that why we come in here to talk about thrash and very random topics?

For anyone wanting to hear more intruder you can download a higher form of killing and psycho savant fully off the site [and maybe live to die].

Okay, so, The Gates of Hell show.

I missed Piledriver, cause I was busy drinking... but that's alright. I'll catch them in December.

Dreams of ****ation came on after them, and they were decent! I couldn't name any songs cause I'm not overly familiar with them, but they played a solid set! And when Loana threw her denim vest out, guess who caught it? That's right... me.
In between bands, I got the chance to meet/speak to Danny Lilker and get a picture taken with him. I was as giddy as a school girl while getting it taken, so I look like a tard... haha.
Next up came the mighty RAZOR!!! I was pretty sauced by then, but I had just donned a fresh Razor shirt and Razor hat, which I bought from Bob Reid. They absolutely crushed, killed, and destroyed the joint. Anvil and Nuclear Assault had no chance of living up to that set!! Which was as follows...
The End
Insant Death
Cross me Fool
Edge of the Razor
Shotgun Justice
Iron Hammer
Violent Restitution
Electric Torture
Cut Throat
Behind Bars
City of ****ation
Concussion
Evil Invaders
The crowd went insane for them, as I suspected they would.
Anvil came on next and played a memorable set, but they couldn't stand up to Razor. They should have went on before them. A highlight during their set was when Mad Dog Colin Brown came up on stage and drank a whole beer through his nose!!
I was pretty drunk, so I don't remember all of Anvil's set, but I believe they played(Not in this order):
666
Mothra
Metal on Metal
Winged Assassins
White Rhino(With Drum Solo)
Smokin' Green
Bottom Feeder
Forged In Fire
Blood on the Ice
Race Against Time
Anvil finished up, and on came Nuclear Assault!
Now, pretty much everybody was dead tired by this point, but a few were still pumped for NA. I can't give you a setlist for them, but I do remember them playing New Song and Critical Mass in order, cause I went pretty insane for those 2 songs. I still haven't heard their new album, but they played a song from it, and I thought it was awesome... so I have to check out the album now!
All in all, I still have bruises from this show, and I'm still always talking about it. Certainly a show I'll never forget!

NP: Soothsayer - Have A Good Time(This album is good, but I still think the To Be A Real Terrorist Demo smokes it.)

We Have Arrived really isn't all that great, it's pretty mediocre for 1985. Definatley the weakest album, the maximum riffage really just isn't there
