Yep. I'm back after a day of rest. My aunt gave me the green light to go her PC, so now I've used it to talk to my most bestest thrasher friends in the whole wide world!

Jk. Any of you guys have any thrash suggestion if I goto Tower or Virign San Francisco later this week? I'm open to different ideas, because FYE only has **** (I checked it and thought that it sucked for only carrying crap >.>)

I did manage to get this cool Alien Angel charm from this Boci Australia shop here. The girl that worked there wasn't that bad either ;)

Any CD priced over 16 is a rip off to me, even if it kicks ***. I can get that same album with the same quality for free using a p2p program or someone else that has it.

you gotta buy the cds of bands you respect at least. if you like the bnand dont rip them off. unless you just getting by on paying ur bills and cant afford anything else, show some respect to some of the bands you listen to. its ok to dl but if you like the album, buy it.

I will always buy the CD's for bands I respect. And if I burn an album for a band I'm interested in checking out, and it turns out I'm really enjoying the band/album, I'll buy the album or order it, whichever. I have over 200 CD's, and about 2/3's of them are actual copies.

Well, I just thought I'd bump the thread for all of us, and say I heard the new Destruction (just like about 1:30 samples).

However, for being the time that was being sampled, I have to say I really dig the guitar work a lot. The whole sample feeling to me just screams "metal". It's evil, it's dark, and heavy.

Not to mention fast too

I also managed to pick up Death's Individual Thought Patterns (totally not thrash but a **** good death metal album), Exodus' Pleasures of the Flesh (need to really hear this tommorrow when I get back to L.A.), and Hades' 2-CD Reissue (i've sampled this and ****, is it ****ing badass or what?!?)

I have grown a liking for a lot of...prog-ish ideas in music lately. To me, it gives a great sound. Even if the beats suddenly shift, at least it's not the same thing over and over.

I like flavor. It's like adding spices to a taco. It adds a whole lot more.

/me wants a taco now >.>

So yeah, I took whoevers advice and got Mercyful Fate - Don't Break The Oath. Great album, but I also noticed something when I heard the first song 'A Dangerous Meeting'. I heard a familiar riff going on. I racked my brains for ages and then finally found it out. The riff at 4:10 is exactly the same as the riff at 2:40 on Return to Hangar.

Anyway, that was just a general thing. I was gonna buy the new Destruction album the other day, but it was $36, so I didn't bother with it.

I need more Mercyful Fate. I've only got Melissa. My local store never seems to have much Fate/King Diamond.

Bloody Soulseek is pissing me off right now. Whenever I go to get place in line, it comes up with "0", and i have to manually start wach download by pressing "retry". Not to mention I'm trying to download Scum.

Yeah, I only had Melissa aswell. I got one of them RR dual CD's, with Don't Break The Oath and Return of the Vampire on it.

I go to JB Hi-Fi in Melbourne and they have most Mercyful Fate and King Diamond releases there, so it's pretty good if you have the cash. It's tea in the cricket so I'm back listening to music.

I usually shop a JB-HIFI too. Usually they have either one of those RR packs. Never both though. They also always have the Dead/World Demise double and never the one I really want, Slowly We Rot/Cause Of Death.

Yeah, we're going well. You guys are getting a pretty steady total going in the 2nd innings at the moment, though.

I reckon it probably depends on the state and outlet to the stuff you have. Luckily in Melbourne the guy ordering for the Metal section is a proper Metalhead. I don't really dig the band he's in (Contrive) but he knows his metal. He saw Overkill with Gustafson, so that's all I need to know.

It's still no Bonded By Blood, but it's another great modern day Thrasher from Exodus. Not sure if I prefer it over TOTD yet, I think I'll give it a few more listens before I decide that.

Yeah, that's been my favorite song so far. Overkill's new style has a lot of groove in it. Which really has no place in thrash what-so-ever, but it's really not all that bad. I kind of like the way they've mixed it up and I hate all the stupid groove monkey riffs that plague everything now-a-days

NP: Overkill - Keeper .....this song is wierd, the first half was pretty lame and then really picks up and thrashes.

All Related Overkill Discussion Above Me:

I don't mind Relix IV, but it deffinetly doesn't compare to the other Overkill, only beats "From the Underground and Below" IMO. For 90's Overkill, the 3 RCA recommended are great, as well as "The Killing Kind".

And I find "Love" to be a good track, suprisingly one of my favorites on the album. I hate the opener and "Wheelz". "Loaded Racks" kind of cool too.

FatalEnergy
08-28-2005, 11:24 PM
Relix IV scores a ......really low 4 out of 10 for me. I only liked four of the songs, pretty weak.

I counted Old School as a good one just because it was kind of fun.

CaptainWaits

Here's what I liked off of Relix IV:

2. Love
3. Loaded Rack
4. Bats In the Belfry
5. A Pound of Flesh
6. Keeper
8. The Mark 2:14

Those 6, the 3 in bold I like the most. Also, speaking of Overkill, I wrote an Artist Profile on them in a forum I admin. Some of you already know of the forum. I didn't take a whole of time doing the Profile though, so it may be a bit weak in a few spots. But here it is neverless:

Might've been the hurricane that knocked out the power. Didn't he say he lived within the Bible Belt of Mississippi?

/has bad memory. :upset:

Wherever he may be, lets hope he's doing alright. This thread isn't the same without his enlightment.

But I did listen to Morbid Saint today for the first time, killer stuff.

I'm sampling the new Nuclear Assault right now. I must say, it's not anything like Handle With Care or Game Over/The Plague but it's good to me.

It's not "OMFG YAY FOR THRASH!!!!!!!!!!111111" but I've listened to the joker material of the album and Long Haired ******* is SO far away from the rest of the album sound.

It's funny though. Sounds like something I'd hear on the Dukes of Hazzard.

Edit: Anyone here hear of a band called Phantom Crew? I found them randomly on iTunes (like I always do with stuff) and they have a 41 song Best-of disc out (I haven't browsed for it yet though outside of the internet) but I must say, their music is pretty good.

I realized I'm actually kind of disappointed. Why is a band as creative as Heathen making music that sounds rather retro?

Well, at least it's GOOD thrash (except for the verses of AoA...the stop-go riffs are annoying). :thumb:

I got Satellite Radio, and it owns. There is a metal station and they play everything from Dark Angel to Manowar. They play some gay stuff though like Slipknot, but it seemes like thay play that crap in the morning when no one's listening to the radio

What kind of sound do they have, m-m? I'm always open to new bands.
What Satellite Radio provider do you have, Face?

Oh yes, glad you're back Ryan. We began to become concerned that Katrina messed things up really bad for you over there.

I hate it when there isn't any power. It happens randomly here in LA. Sometimes DWP loses a generator or two and well, we have to pull out my dad's little generator and well, one time that happened and I was in the dark listening to my Ipod Mini and trying to watch TV. It sucked.

Anywho, it's great to have your influence back in this thread. :chug:

Have you heard of Phantom Crew by any chance, Ryan?

Nocturnus is early death metal with keyboards and sci fi lyrics.

How far were you from Katrina, Ryan?

I think i've heard the name Phantom Crew by the way, but i don't have any songs.. sorry :(

Sounds interesting. As for Phantom Crew, don't worry about it. They only released like 4 demos, and the Best-of/Compalation (sp) contains any rare stuff and all 4 demos as well as 4 bootlegs. Pretty niffy since it only costs 10 bucks on iTunes, and it contains 37 songs (the bootlegs aren't included >_<)

Well, I'm fustrated with my amp because the footswitch cable has a problem with it's wiring.

Lucky for me, I know how to solder

It flatters me that you guys are concerned about my well-being, thanks.

I was hit by Katrina, as I live in the middle of Mississippi. We didn't get hit as bad as the people on the coast, but a tree did fall on our house. It put a large hole in the roof (right above my sister's room) and tore the raingutter off. It also lifted the foundation of the house off of the ground a little. On top of all that, we were without power for four straight days.

I never knew how much we rely on electricity. :(

As for Phantom Crew, I've only heard the name.

thats bad, but at least you're ok :)

Listened to a bit of Beyond the Gates today, and so far i've been really dissapointed. The guitar tone is no where near as good as Seven Churches and the production is pretty bad. It's pretty good but its a bit of a let down.

I'm beginning to accept the new Exodus a lot more than what I used to already do.

Yes, Ryan is right. The new Destruction doesn't really top it yet (but that can all change once I can find a full leak).

I'm bored. My parents are helping my sis move back into the dorms so I'll be stuck alone.

Until 10 and 4 :D *party and a day out by myself*

Evil is just a classic. I was listening to Return of the Vampire and the chorus sounds really punkish. Maybe that's due to most of the members being in a punk band before MF. Still a ripping song though.

Yep. The King himself was in the punk scene during the 70s according to what I've heard. I need to get some MF or else I'll need to shoot myself. XD

I'm still hooked on the new Exodus. I need to burn this promo and blast around town.

It's great modern Thrash. Does it annoy anyone when Gary does the whammy bar wanking entrance to some of his solos? he overdoes it in my opinion. Anyway, Raze is quickly becoming my fave song after Going Going Gone on the album.

Sometimes it gets repetitive and stuff. Then again, it's not as terrible as Rick Rozz (or so people say how bad he was on Leprosy).

Totally different guy for a band in a totally different genre, but still...I think I made sense.

I think they were better back in the 80's....especially Gary. On the new albums his solos kinda suck due to him covering them up with effects and such. The Lee Altus solos are pretty good, but that's expected with him being in Heathen.

Yes! good call with that. I wouldn't say Gary is as annoying as Rick Rozz, but you got it dead on with the...the...factor. I can't think of any decent words at the moment.

Lets settle for "wanking" for the time being.

RCA: If I can get the Phantom Crew CD either at Tower today (when I leave after 10) or if I get some iTunes credits, I'll try to burn them to a CD, then rip some samples off as MP3s and send it to you.

That all depends if I can even find any of this stuff at Tower >.>;

Good luck with the recovery.
