Why is it that when some of the most talented guitarist pass away their death is so unsung? I mean Dimebag was his equal in my opinion but people are still jib jabing about his death, while this death is new to me.

Very true. Takes me 25 min. to get home, and I already checked Tower and FYE. No finds, ****it x_x

Luckily, Penny Lane isn't far from my trip home since I can take a different route to stop there and put in for a special order. I don't like dealing with the goons sometimes when it comes to special orders at the big chains.

Yes. Persection Mania is badass though. Well worth the money I paid for it. Bombenhagel sounds better on there than it does on "Mortal Way of Live".

It helps me when I try to work with stuff dealing with war. Sodom's war lyrics are really good.

I wish I could write like Onkel Tom XD

Ok. Well, yes, I have to agree, it must be great over in the home of the greatest metal festival grounds. I want to go, but eh, alas I can not. If I did go, I'd have a blast.

As for the Corporal's comments on Decibels, yes, Rich wasn't spectacular. I listened to some of it more, and sometimes, he has his good moments. He did a good job on Goof Soup as well as the re-recording of Instant Death. However, I think Dave and Rob shun through the whole album. The Game is a cool song if you ask me. Rob sounds...super pissed off like a drill seregant at Boot Camp.

SODOM and Finntroll U.S tour later this year. :amaze:

RCA
07-15-2005, 09:41 PM
Yeah, I heard about that, and I'll believe it when I see it. Sodom have a reputation of pulling out of tours at the last minute, plus they'd have a hard time getting venues to play in because there's no thrash market here at all.

Finntroll is another story though. I think they'd have little problem finding places to play. I think if Sodom doesn't mind not headlining most of the tour, then that tour could become a reality.

I hope they play though; I REAAALLY want to see them (Finntroll included).

FatalEnergy
07-15-2005, 11:35 PM
Yeah, Sodom needs to stop with thier last minute crap, it's quite annoying, but if this works out it will be cool, especially with Finntroll. They are one of the few bands I like that are cheesier than ****. :thumb:

However, Black Hawk Down is a pretty bad *** game for the PC. Delta Force never disappoints. The humvee levels are like a Disneyland ride with a .50 caliber attached to it.

Edit: random...I know. I need to take care of a few things, then rest before 11 tonight because I need to get over whatever I might be coming down with x_x...**** weather change.

There've been a few on gamecube. The last good one was Wind Waker. Considering you can get a cube where I live for about $AUD70, it's quite a good deal.

On the other hand.......I'm looking for a good site to buy new releases on vinyl. I'm sick of the whole CD thing...if I want digital music, I'll download it. I've found a few label sites, but they mainly don't have the option of sorting out CD releases. I realise this stuff is mostly dead and mostly not done any longer (I was really dissapointed when the newest Megadeth album wasn't on LP), but for some things like the new Atheist reissues I'd definately like to use my great turntable (an inheritance).

So does anybody have any ideas?

Having recently acquired Slayer's Show No Mercy and Megadeth's Peace Sells... But Who's Buying, I can say they're probably the best thrash metal albums (and therefore the best albums) I've heard. Curse me for ever having considered Reign In Blood and Rust In Peace the pinnacle of either band!

And while Metallica's 80's stuff rules, as do Kreator and Testament, I'm just not convinced anything can top early Megadeth and Slayer as thrash metal Gods.

Though Megadeth are among my 3 favorite bands, as far as thrash goes I'd have to say Darkness Descends and Punishment For Decadence are both better than any of those bands' albums (cept maybe Kreator) as thrash albums.

Rust in Peace > KIMB > SFSGSW > Peace Sells, IMO of course.

I love SFSGSW, seriously. Into the Lungs of Hell is a great instrumental, Set the World Afire is classic Megadeth, Anarchy meh, Mary Jane is great, 502 is a good fast track, In My Darkest Hour is amazing, Liar is another fun track, Hook in Mouth is ace as well.

Went to Ozzfest last yesterday. Mastadon was the only band on the second stage worth seeing. The main stage was great except for Mudvayne. Iron Maiden put on the best show I have ever seen. Their setlist was Ides of March, Wrathchild, Phantom of the Opera, The Trooper, Revelations, Run to the Hills, The Number of the Beast, Hallowed be thy Name, Running Free and Sanctuary. Black Sabbath was good, but weak compared Maiden.

I need to start looking for that album

As for the Wacken > Ozzfest, Dragunov made a great comparison, but I did that way back before somewhere on here. I can't remember if it was in here or not...err...

Ah well, went out today to a friend's house, partied a bit, swam, nearly drowned ( ) because I haven't swam in such a while. My friend and I listened to Maiden and stuff, and well I felt a lot better when I came home for some reason.

That being, I took a shot at playing my guitar again, and discovered some new tricks I never knew I could do. I still have the metal running through my veins, and I can actually make some interesting rock songs too.

The cool thing is that I was actually playing Bestial Invasion's second riff after the intro almost perfectly, and I always have trouble with it. The rest of the song I seem to get pretty good. As for Life Without Sense, I think I got it down pretty good, now that I discovered the main riff through a small jam. Also, my tone sounds like "Alice in Hell" Annihilator, so I'm glad it's crunchy and thrashy XD

Well, then there's the good old playing of Piranha and Exodus (attack!) which I dearly love to play. Good ol' thrash at it's best.

I need to really start playing some more, but not as loud or else I think I'll go deaf

Megadeth definately don't suck live. Saw them in about May (that long ago!) and they rocked my socks. Very professional, Dave really should get around to recording an album with the band.

As for albums:

RIP > TSHF = KIMB (remaster) > PSBWB = TSHF > ... > KIMB (original mix) = Countdown > the rest.

Seriously, we shouldn't underestimate how much that remastering helped.

SODOM: My 2c:

They've got a thrash vibe, but aren't overall thrash. I'd consider them a Death Metal band. But, not being one to discriminate due to genre I'd say "Nuclear Winter" is the greatest, the Agent Orange and Persecution Mania albums sit in the region of "OK to Good". They don't seem to offer me that much on the whole anymore: the thin production doesn't bring out whatever ideas you Sodom freaks believe the band has. I own both albums and really tried to like this band, but find I just don't play them that much.

THat said, I want to legally change my name to Tom Angelripper!

It will be thrashing along nicely, and then a riff that doesn't add to the thrashing madness will be played, and totally screw up the vibe of the song. The heavy-as-**** breakdowns are still to be found, but the quality of the songs isn't quite as good as it was on Game Over or Survive.

I've got a trampoline too, but there's a little boardwalk in front of the pool which inhibits the trampoline from getting close enough to do jumps.

NP: Hirax - Blitzkrieg Air Attack

how long is the boardwalk? because you could always try jump it :p

cool thing we do is put two bodyboards on top of each other, have them near the edge of the pool, so when you jump off the trampoline you land on the top board and sometimes fly out the pool

So, I just ordered a copy of the re-release of Torment In Fire. It's remastered and comes with a ****load of extra goodies. Everyone better hurry and get theirs... they only printed 1000. Half of them are probably gone already.
Next up, they're doing Forward To Termination. Both of these albums desperately needed a remastering to boost the volume a little... and both albums have indeed been remastered. Woo!

Along with this, I also got a few Sabbat albums(Japanese Sabbat).

Last order I'll be doing for a long long time though... :(

I just want to bring up the german band "Rage" since their on my playlist right now. What do any of you guys think of them. Awesome speed metal in their early days, great classic power metal in their later days. "Trapped!" still has to be my favorite album work of theirs. For new sh*t, "Unity" is class.

Great ****, although Soundchaser beats Unity by far because it actually has melody and moves away from the keys that were all over Unity. Their latest line-up is pure class: Terrana on drums and Smolski on guitars and Wagner is class as always.

If anythyinjg, they probably don't get the recognition they deserve because they're so **** prolific. They have more great songs than a lot of really recognised speed metal, but spread them through a huge discography with really only a few class records.

Soundchaser, Unity, Ten Years In Rage, Trapped and Perfect Man are the ones I'd keep, and would ditch the rest as, although they all have at least one classic track, there's usually too much crap to come with it.

Looking forward to their next album.

Their legacy is **** all, but Practice What You Preach and Low are pretty good records. They didn't do anything new, but for fans of their genre, they're a fine band. They seem to be disliked around these parts. Why?

The drumming doesn't do **** for me though. No variety.

FatalEnergy
07-19-2005, 09:43 PM
The drumming on Low really isn't even all that great, they didn't really have good drumming until 1999's "The Gathering" with Lombardo.......but....the only thing good about that album is the drumming. The rest of it is pretty horrible if you ask me.

Anyone hear of this side Project of the guitsarist from Watchtower? Apparently he recuited the bassist for Cannibal Corpse and the drummer from Lamb of Suck. I've heard some of it and it sounds pretty ****ing awesome. In fact it sounds almost like Watchtower, but more technical

Yes. Overkill for sure are deffinetly a big Thrash band anywhere's you go, and for good reason IMO. The one thing that bothers most people about them is Blitz's voice.

I love Blitz's voice, it's unique. About Testament......I used to be the biggest Testament fan, but over time I started liking them less and less, because they just seem really weak compared to all the other thrash out there. I still have a soft place for the first 5 albums as weak and over rated as they may be, but they are far from my favorite though. Well, It is a lot more technical, because they had Olly who was a jazz drummer and Harry who was a classical guitarist. Mike's riffs were way more technical because he said he started listening to Fates Warning and Watchtower. It's not a brutal as the Antichrist, and probably not as catchy, but I like the vocals/riffs/solos more.

/has never listened to post PWYP Testament

I personally like PWYP, although no one else does and everyone says it's weak. I can see why. The album after PWYP is "Souls of Black" and isn't too much different then PWYP. The album after Souls of Black is "The Ritual" and they tried to go for a more commercial so the thrash is pretty much gone, but I like it as a metal album. It's not a musical abortion like Metallica's Black album. After that "Low" came out and just tried to be down-tuned 90's thrash, but is kind of lame. "Demonic" came out in '97 and is by far the shittiest album. It's all death vocals, no solos and groove monkey homo riffs. "The Gathering" came out in '99 and is a mixture of "Low" and "Demonic", except with cool drumming, because Lombardo plays on it, but other than that, it blows

First Strike Still Deadly is just a bunch of old tunes from the first The Legacy and TNO re-recorded with better production.....but played at half the speed and intesity, so it's quite gay. The only track on there that is essential is the re-recorded verion of "Reign of Terror", because it's awesome thrash with the almighty Zetro doing vocals
