guess what, i got the internet here in college.

i originally got a room with o prioir connection, and had to share with some other dude. It woulda cost me like $210 for a connection, and then there were like all these buills. I ended up changing rooms so I'm by myself and I got like a connection put in for like $60. Sick one

I asked the so called metalheads of my school if they knew who Exodus, Coroner, and Testament were, and they didn't know. Can you say posers? Anyway, wouldn't it kind of suck if our founders had to leave? Also, I didn't know Darkness Descends was a required download! I had it in the first place, but I when did we start setting requirements for joining, other than loving thrash metal. I hate being gone on the weekends!

Haha, I just saw a Beavis and Butthead episode where they make fun of Exodus' Thorn in mY side Video clip. It has one guy arguing with his dad and this is what they say -

Beavis - Aw, daddy doesn't understand me aww
Butthead - yeah really, woman
Hehe, huh huh
Butthead - It must really suck having a dad that's still around after you're born
Beavis - Yeah, I wonder what it's like. This guy has a cool dad though
Butthead - Yeah, too bad he's got a wuss for a son.

LordDargon

Iron Maiden's 7th son of a 7th son was a "concept" album (I think that's what they call them) where all of the songs tell one story, and each song tells a different part. Well I think that flotsam and jetsam did the same thing! On their album DFTD, the title track was followed by another track called metalshock. Both are very long epic thrashers. DFTD is about Satan making all the countries blow each other up wiht nukes:

"Belial begins his scheming, treacherous plan,
Turns brother on brother, toys with the leaders of man.
He creates before them illusions of broken truce,
A wicked plot of deception, that commanders cannot refuse.
In a short time he has control,
USA, Russia, chaos from pole to pole.
Mankind's worst nightmare, it's too late to pray,
Hold tight and take your last breath,
The missiles are on their way...DOOMSDAY!

All over the earth the horror begins,
This time there's no second chance.
Firebombs...deathly flash, vapors spread so fast,
In a moment the world is ash."

Now look at the opening lyrics to metalshock:

"The end of time has come, the day after.
Everything is black, the world is over.
There are no trees, all life has crumbled.
Cities tumbled down, man's self-destruction."

It looks like Metalshock picks up where DFTD left off! Anyways I just noticed that and I thought it was pretty cool, you can tell that to all these mallcore fags who complain that real metal doesn't have good lyrics. When was the last time Linkin Park did a 16-minute-long 2-part epic about the end of world?

True Metal Forever! \m/  \m/

^^ Nope, what are they? thrash? death?

Corporal Compendia
02-24-2004, 03:28 PM
Thrash and Death I suppose. Elements of both.
Chuck Schuldiner was even in the band for a brief period of time.
Very simple, but fast, catchy and aggressive! Their releases are hard very hard to find now, but I recommend anything you can find by them... Having that gay Glam Slaughter around certainly doesn't make things easy either.

LordDargon

Corporal Compendia
02-24-2004, 03:35 PM
Surrender or Die, Strappado, or the Not Dead Yet/Paranormal release.
That's all they had really...

Unlike the Glam band that stole the name, this Slaughter lived up to their name...

Pitrelli's Best was The World Needs a Hero, which is the only studio album he was featured on, and Marty Friedman's was Countdown to Extinction. Killswitch are a lot more nu-metal than thrash. Soilwork are cool, "Gothenburg Metal". Niether are thrash tho... actually, Soilwork are more thrash than Killswitch.

Well I listened to Darkness Descends a few times today, and I just realized. If it doesn't pound RiB into dust, i'll go listen to nu-metal. Well maybe that's not such a good idea. i looked at all the posts today, and somewhere around page 25 (i think) everyone was talkin about their favourite thrash drummers etc. so i ask the question: what is your ultimate thrash band? its not like one of those ****ty ones you see normally, this is thrash only.

mine:
lead: tommy baron (coroner) or dave mustaine... probably mustaine
rhythm: guy from kreator (dunno his name, but F*UCK he is a fast mother****er
bass: cliff burton
drums: dave lombardo
vocals: either don doty (dark angel) or araya... probably doty

*drools*

i found out today that burton could play with all four fingers on his right hand!! no wonder he was so good!

Same lead and rythym as manu :thumb:

Up to here, I had heard some overkill songs, (hello from the gutter) but I never got the right feeling from them. I like thrash that is dark, satanic, dark, fast, dark, and heavy. Perfect examples are:
Dark Angel - Darkness Descends
Possessed - Seven Churches
Slayer - RiB
Kreator - Pleasure To Kill
hell even Cannibal Corpse - Eaten Back To Life is thrashy enough :p
etc etc etc, so yesterday I got 2 overkill songs - Frankenstein and Horrorscope. Frankenstien gave me the same feeling as HFTG or alot of Anthrax songs - even though it's an instrumental, it was just too light-hearted and humourous. Now Horrorscope was much gloomier and heavier, but it was too slow to catch my attention.

Final Judgment: Overkill is a musically talented band, but not my type of thrash. :thumb:

Yeah, Anthrax have turned to garbage. I agree with the Corporal, if liker was in Anthrax in the 80's... Anthrax + Nuclear Assault = Some kind of superhuman band ... That would have been awesome! :D:D

DRI rules... they made a lot of the other thrash bands sound like wimps when they first started, but I believe they're from Texas.

The Crown is a swedish crap band, even by melodic death standards, that is often mistaken for thrash. Comparisons would be the haunted. Yes bands that begin with 'The...' and that come from sweden are normally sucky... Much like The Opeth and The Inflames

CHRIS POLAND Talks About The New MEGADETH Album, Working With DAVE MUSTAINE - Mar. 7, 2004

Former MEGADETH guitarist Chris Poland recently spoke to Ricky Garcia of Jemfest Radio about his guest appearance on the new MEGADETH album, tentatively due later in the year through Sanctuary Records. The following are some of the highlights of that interview:

On how he came to be involved with the new MEGADETH album:

Chris Poland: "Dave [Mustaine] gave me a call and asked me if I would be interested in coming down and doing the solos on his latest MEGADETH record, and I was more than happy to do it. So we drove down to Tempe, Arizona and went to Phase Four studios and I think I recorded nine solos — eight of them were electric distortion — heavy, heavy guitar — and then one was a nylon-string, acoustic kind of solo section. But it was all really fun. They had the best gear there — they had a 50-watt Plexi Marshall head with vintage speakers, there was like 50 different vintage guitar pedals to pick from. So I was very excited about the whole thing. And working with Dave, I swear, it was just like I had never left the band. We worked a certain way when I was in the band — he described what he needed here and there. Some of the solos, he let me just do exactly what I wanted, which I had a lot of fun doing, other solos, he basically directed me — like with his finger. While I was soloing, he would move his hand up and down the neck, and I would just follow his hand. It was like a Ouija board or something. I would just follow him and try to emulate where he was going with his hand. We've done solos like that before when I was with MEGADETH. It was like I had never left the band as far as our working situation in the studio. It was great working with him. We're both sober, so it's like, all that added baggage and baloney that was going on with us before wasn't there — it was just the music — and he's actually a really pretty funny guy."

On whether he had kept in contact with Dave Mustaine during his time away from the band:

Chris Poland: "[We kept in contact] on and off, between doing the remixes and the 'Behind the Music' stuff, we'd talk once in a while. It's not like we're gonna start the band up again, but it's great being friends with Dave. He's a good guy."

On whether Dave Mustaine is able to play guitar again in light of the hand injury that caused MEGADETH's split in early 2002:

Chris Poland: "Oh, he's gotten over that. He went for physical therapy, and his guitar playing is as good as it's ever been, if not better. Probably because he's been practicing trying to get it back and didn't realize where he left off and he's probably a better player than he's ever been right now."

On his work on the new MEGADETH album:

Chris Poland: "A couple of my favorite solos was… One of the songs was called 'When Robots Rule', which the engineer at Phase Four broke out this old Foxx tone machine — it's a wah-wah with an Octafuzz built into it — and the sounds that thing made were just amazing, man. I was just blown away. It was a lot of fun. A lot of the playing I felt really good about. The guy that was engineering and kind of co-producing it with Dave was a great guy, so it just all worked out really good."

On whether the album will be released as a MEGADETH album or as a Dave Mustaine solo CD:

Chris Poland: "You know, I don't know myself. I don't know what Dave's intentions are with the record, but I know that, out of the 10 songs I heard, I thought every one of them were great, and I was actually disappointed on a couple that I didn't get to play on, because one of them's a really heavy Bonham/ZEP vibe, and I really wanted to play on that song, but I knew Dave was saving that one for himself."

to whomever asked about Testamet and Exodus:

Testament

1. the new order
2. souls of black
3. practice what you preach
4. low
5. the legacy
6. the gathering
7. the ritual
8. demonic

Fisrt Strike Still Deadly are just old songs re-recorded with better sound.

As for Exodus, i am not a fan, but i know the albums people enjoy are:

1. Bonded By Blood
2. Fablous Diaster

Just avoid the album "force of habit".

Bonded by Blood is by far the best album by Exodus.
I've got some good news. My buddies and I in my band decided on a couple of cover songs we're gonna play once in a while during our shows. We decided on I Am The Law by Anthrax, and Electric Eye by Judas Priest. You guys think these are good picks, or are me and my bandmates crazy?
