I don't know if it's been discussed, but the Dark Angel reunion doesn't seem to be going too well. When Gene was asked about it...

The inevitable question that you’re probably tired of hearing: What is the status of Dark Angel?

(Laughs) Well, how perceptive you are. It’s moribund. It’s hard to get those guys to even be in the same room together anymore. One of our members has now moved out of L.A. so trying to throw jams together isn’t gonna be the easiest thing in the world. Who knows what the future will hold with that, but I know that if I get some time available and I’m in Los Angeles, Jim Durkin—their original guitarist—and I wanna write something together. I doubt that it will be for Dark Angel but it will be in the vein of fast, aggressive, brutal ****. Jim is still one of the world’s best riff writers and that was one thing that attracted me to Dark Angel when I joined them. “Ah, you guys have got great riffs! People are gonna be stealing your riffs a lot.” And sure enough, it happened! Jim is still killer, so hopefully we get to do something in the future, at least work together because Jim is still one of my best pals. But as for reunions, I’ve fought against reunions. It’s definitely my fault that Dark Angel never reformed because I know that when they were talking about reforming and were like “Let’s see what we can do here,” I said, “Look, if you guys get all the **** together and you do all the work and make everything work, I will fly in and play drums for anything that Dark Angel wants to do if I have the time. We’ll make the time, make the schedules together. You guys have to do the work and put in the time, because I used to have to do everything for Dark Angel. This time, if you guys wanna make it happen, you have to do it.” I love Dark Angel, but that was twelve years ago, man! ****, thirteen years ago we broke up. For me to work, it can’t be a whole lot of work for me to do it. I think that was kinda what doomed it from the start. “You guys do some work!” And then all the fighting started again. Old things started coming up between certain members so it never really got off the ground. I was fine with that because reunions are ****ing stupid. Kudos to Kreator for never breaking up. They were going through a few lean years when thrash metal was dying and death metal was taking over. They did that RENEWAL record and everybody hated that one. I thought it was a killer record. Also Overkill. Through all their line-up changes and everything, they’re still doing it. Good thing for both bands that they never broke up.

Ah well.

That's all fine and dandy. I don't think you've listened to much Thrash though, which is fine. Most people consider Pantera to be Groove Thrash or Half-Thrash. I'm a big Pantera fan myself, but I'm likely to be one of the only ones here.

So, here's the thing about the Razor footage. I was to get a DVD called Razor, Live in Hensall or...something like that. Anyways, the guy ripped me off, so now I have to drive out to Perth, Ontario, and punch him in the face at his crumby flea market stand, which apparently he is at daily. Funny, I've dealt with the guy before and had no problems.
The least I can do is threaten him by email... haha. No straight forward threats though, that can result in arrest... just... hinted threats.

I heard about a week ago that Razor were planning on playing shows after that new album/DVD hits, and all they needed was another band to tour with. Schmier of Destruction heard about this too, and Destruction ***MIGHT*** do a little tour with Razor. After PWYP, Testament completely leaves thrash, and plays a more traditional Metal, almost Alternative Metal sound. It's still very good, but definetly not thrash. I'd still say give it a try. See avatar

Not exactly true. Demonic features some groovy half-thrash songs, Low has Dog Faced Gods and some groove stuff, and The Gathering is probably the closest thing to thrash they've done since Souls of Black. Mind you, none of the above albums are exactly masterpieces. :(

So, I've got votes for Sabbat and Overkill. Let's vote on those two; first one to three votes gets the gig.

Good choices, espescially on the SLaughter. I wrote a crappy review of it one day now on the Encyclopedia Metallum. Love the album.

Speaking of Destroyer 666: I've been into them for about as long as I've been listening to metal. Somehting about the song "Australian and Antichirst" really appealed to me. Some of their ambient passages are a bit tedious though.

And early Bathory: My favourite record of theirs is The Return because it actually has riffs! That whole album flows so well and although there's probably a lack of diversity, the crunch of the guitar tone just makes me want to headbang.

http://www.condemnedunit.com

they got their entire album up for d/l on the site. they even have a great cover of The Accused's Slow Death. and they recently added the guitarist from another ATX thrash band (Mayday), on bass. enjoy

Cryptic Slaughter are amazing. it's funny how so many of the crossover revival bands rip-off their logo. Municipal Waste has a similar logo, and Cross Examination have almost an identical logo. heh

Whoa, I haven't posted in two days. Let me get back up to speed:

Destruction is a live band, so until you hear them live you really don't know exactly how good they are.

Overkill, overrated? Please.

I enjoyed TotD; Impaler was my favorite track.

Bostaph is definitely a good drummer; I think he can fill Hunting's shoes well on this upcoming release. Rob and Gary said that he was awesome during the recording of this new one.

I'll be buying that Eternal Nightmare re-release for sure.

For Sodom, get Obsessed By Cruelty, Persecution Mania, and Agent Orange in that order. You'll be surprised by the increase in quality if you listen to them in that order. Though anything with Sodom's name on it is worth checking out.

It sucks that they don't even tell you that you were banned, everyone around here is so anal, it's annoying.

Does anyone have any Neo-Destruction? I can't find any anywhere, they released 2 EP's one is self-titled, and the other is called "Them Not Me", and a full length album called "The Least Successful Human Cannonball"

I heard it's really not that good, but I still really want to hear it

Hey guys, needing your help I'm afraid.

I'm almost certain going to see Overkill this sunday at Bospop. Altough I come for Maiden, Porcupine Tree and Dragonforce, I heard Overkill makes some pretty good trash. I want to at least hear a couple of songs before getting there, cause that'll make the festival even better. Can somebody recommend me some songs/albums I absolutely nééd to know when going to an Overkill concert?

You guys think, I'll be 17 by then, I can get into an 18 and up Saxon show at House of Blues in November? It's only 18 bucks.
BTW: Why does everyones avatars keep getting scrambled, I didn't post for a couple weeks and it's gone?

I'd try and take a friend's ID just in case. But if you look old enough they probably won't do anything.

Like last week mx moved to a different server or something, so the avatars were lost I think. Lots of people haven't reuploaded yet.

They'll be playing the entire Feel The Fire album on this upcoming tour they're doing. That should give whiplash that'll last for a few years. :D

I got some good news, guys.

Today after my test, I was like "oh ****...I didn't pass" but the lady told me "You can only miss 15, and you missed 10. You passed."

Me = :D

So my mom and I did what we had to do, and we went to Tower, where she bought Eternal Nightmare for me. I was going to pay her back but she said "No. You deserve it after trying so hard to pass this test."

w00t for me. **** this CD is one loud mother****er...I want to blast it in my mom's Explorer down the avenues and at my old hangout XD

No, it's supposed to have a DVD with songs from that benefit show they did for Chuck Billy.

Just got an email from Bob Reid about Razor:

cheers
Bob

This is good news, even though they aren't playing anywhere near me. Show's you that they haven't split yet! :thumb:

At the start it says the DVD will be separate, and the re-release comes with a live album of a show they played after the benefit show.

Second part of a very good interview by the way :)

Like Vio said, they sound like Bonded... era Exodus. Add in some early Slayer-esque riffs, a technical edge, and some progressive elements as well, and you'll have a general idea of what US sounds like. They're one of my favorites. :thumb:

Picked up Anthrax's State of Euphoria and Persistence of Time used, and they also had Suicical Tendencies' Lights, Camera, Suicidal and Anthrax's P.O.V. videos for cheap, gonna pick them up.

Anyone heard of Warning S.F.?

It's one of Jon Torres' other bands, and they're quite awesome. Their new album Aftermath is pretty solid; the song "The Noose" features riffs from Ulysses Siren's Above The Ashes!

Went to heathen and nuclear assault last tuesday and it was soo killer! Met Terry Lauderdale before the show he is a brillaint guy and down to earth. I was a the front [ i mean at the barrier!] the whole gig, i got the support band i think they were called annumition's pick sang [kinda] with heathen i sang/shouted DEATH in the song death by hanging they only had 30mins which was a bit disappointing though :( Nuclear Assault were insane i think john connoly must be about 5"4 or somthing and Dan Liker looks about 7foor lol he is ****ing tall they played a song off the new album sounds very good and thrashy along with all the classics. Got all of heathen to sign my poster which is now framed on my wall. And we met John Connolley after as well all brillaint and down to earth guys. Killer bands Killer gig!
