can you guys tell me what is retro thrash and give some examples?

I think you may be reffering to old school(80's) or first wave thrash, in that case try early Slayer, Exodus, Megadeth, Anthrax, Dark Angel, Destruction maybe even some Venom. Basically just look for bands who were formed in the early 80's :thumb:

NP: Dark Angel - Psychosexuality

EDIT: Dargon, don't leave :) I remember when I created a new account because I wasn't being taken seriously and you convinced me to stay as Slatanic :thumb:

Retro thrash = Could be 80's thrash, or newer bands whose music is 80's thrash styled.

Bands include Heathen, Hirax, Sodom (80's thrash), or Violator, Sauron, and Andralls (Retro styled thrash).

I can't wait to see the good original Anthrax, I lost total intrest in them when I started looking for more of thier albums, and Joey wasn't on any of them and they stopped playing thrash. I heard a rumor they might play Ozzfest, along with Iron Maiden,I'll probably go to that, but that means I have to sit around with all the dumb****s who are waiting for Shadows Fall, and Dimmu Borgir and all that crap to come on. I did that last year when I was seeing Slayer and Priest, all the Slipknot fans were around, I thought I was going to puke by thier shitty taste in music. Slayer owned everyone though :thumb: , but they could of had a more aggressive setlist than they did.

NP: Destruction - Curse the Gods (I could listen to this for days)

There was supposed to be, and now that they're touring in Europe with the original lineup, you can bet that they'll use the DVD as a sort of promotion for the tour.

Although I don't care for Testament, I'd like to see that because the original version's sound and picture quality sucked. Hard.

The DVD itself is awesome. Tons of goodies, great sound, great visuals, just ****ing awesoem :D

The Live CD (Alive Devastation) with the DVD is a bundle in Europe. I read some of the reviews from Century Media, people complained that here in the states that they got jipped because Century Media only sent them the DVD, and no CD.

If you can get an overseas version of the DVD and the CD in a bundle and not get jipped, then + will be raining from the sky.

It's really good though for the DVD itself. One of the best I have owned. Like RCA said, the Bestial Invasion **** up is hilarious XD.

I wonder how I'd feel if I were the only real thrash and old school death metal lover in area. I will at very rare times see people wearing Metallica, Iron Maiden, or Slayer shirts, but most of the time it's nothing special. Where I used to go with my ex g/f is not a special place I used to love to chill at. Not because of here, it's just that a lot of "wankstas" dominate it, and when I show up, it's like I'm a freak of nature. However, I stare back at them and I think they turn around hoping I don't say **** XD

I seriously went into a Tower Records with just my leather vest, a Foamy The Squirrel shirt(as retarted it may sound, Foamy is awesome. Ask me if you want more)., and some jeans with boots. I think I left everyone wondering :

Oh well, I'm just trying to kill time. I've finished one of my games, TV sucks, the radio isn't playing any good classic rock x.x and I'm just here with 3 DVDs and an IPod Mini.

The absence of bass, at times, is unbearable. The guitar was mixed a bit low too. As I said though, if you look past this you'll find a solid thrash album.

ThrashMaster27
03-26-2005, 07:58 PM
Not to sound like I hate Bassists or anything, cause I dont, but I only notice the Bass when it's really prominent. Like in bands such as Iron Maiden, Overkill, The first Flotsam & Jetsam album etc....other than that, lack of Bass doesn't bother me.

RCA
03-26-2005, 08:00 PM
Ah, maybe I have an ear for bass then.

ThrashMaster27
03-26-2005, 08:04 PM
Perhaps! I always think about Bands like Slayer without a Bassist and wonder if it would actually make a difference. Also! I've been listening to Carcass recently...they so easily could have been a Thrash band.

FatalEnergy
03-26-2005, 08:23 PM
I'm a bassist myself, so I look for the bass constantly, and I can usually hear one when no one else does, but still even on AJFA, I can't hear it

Actually if you listen to Hell Awaits, the bass is very easily heard. I can even hear it on Reign In Blood. There are lots of thrash albums where the bass is easily heard, you might just not have an ear for it, usually the bass is there and makes the sound a lot more full on thrash albums, but it's hard to distinguish. Put it this way....if the bass wasn't there, you would notice a difference

NP: Judas Priest - Jawbreaker

ThrashMaster27
03-26-2005, 08:34 PM
Yeah, true enough. That's why I always wondered. When I was younger I never noticed the bass loss on ...And Justice For All. Like you say, being a Bassist would give me a sharper ear for it. Sadly I'm a Guitarist and a very very crap Drummer.

RetiredAt21

Information on the new Nuclear Assault album taken from their official website:

The long-awaited new studio album from thrash metal innovators Nuclear Assault is near completion. Ten years in the making and tentatively titled '3ed World Genocide,' the album is scheduled for mid-2004 release on Screaming Ferret Wreckords. It will be the follow-up to the 2003 live album 'Alive Again' on Screaming Ferret. 'Alive Again' was Nuclear Assault's first release in nine years.

Vocalist/guitarist John Connelly, bass guitarist Danny Lilker, drummer Glenn Evans and new guitarist Scott Harrington are wrapping up working on '3ed World Genocide' at the Manchester, NH, studios of Screaming Ferret head Timothy Koukos. Former member Erik Burke also plays guitar on the album, which is being co-produced by Koukos and Evans. Original songs were contributed by Evans, Connelly and Lilker.

'3ed World Genocide' is a rich blend of Nuclear Assault's lethal, politically conscious metal and songs showcasing the band's wicked sense of humor. A few surprises are in store for fans too.

The songs include: "Price of Freedom," "3ed World Genocide," "Fractured Minds," "Defiled Innocents," "Living Hell," "Human Wreckage," "Eroded Liberty," "Whine &Cheese" (a spoof of "mall rock"), "Celtic Frosty Cold Beer" (a Celtic Frost spoof with lyrics about the ingredients of beer), "Folsom Prison Blues" (a Johnny Cash cover) and "LHA" (or "Long Haired Asshole," a country/bluegrass song originally recorded for Connelly's solo album 'Back to Basics' officially credited as the John Connelly Theory.

I wonder how it will sound like though.

Oy, I forgot what Slayer's new album would sound like. Apparently Jeff said something like "Payback", hopefully not the downtuned guitars and lyrics, but more like the energy, speed, and aggression of the song...

That'd be sweet.

Actually I hope the new slayer album sounds more like seasons in the abyss. I quite liked that album actually. I don't follow slayer that religiously (suddenly seems wrong to say that) but I would like to hear more stuff like that album.

I would be happy if it sounded like SITA too.
As for the reccomendations I will give you some nessecities of thrash:
Exodus-Bonded By Blood
Dark Angel-Darkness Descends
Megadeth-Rust in Peace
Overkill-Feel the Fire
Coroner-Punishment for Decadence
Kreator-Pleasure to Kill
Vio-lence-Oppressing the Masses
Destruction-All Hell Breaks Loose
Annihilator-Alice in Hell
Sabbat-History of a Time to Come
Iced Earth-Night of te Stormrider
Death Angel-The Ultra-violence
Sodom-Persecution Mania
Sepultura-Schizophrenia
Slayer-Hell Awaits
Possesed-Seven Churches
Testament-The Legacy
Forbidden-Twisted into Form

that should start your thrash collection

Searching in the darkness, searching for the light
Looking to the darkness, putting up a fight
Iron chains surround you, you try to make a run
Someone near has found you, and now you see the sun
Bright lights, now you can see where you are
Far, out in the universe
Now, you, try to escape from this spot
Hot, ready or not
TAKE THIS TORCH!
TAKE THIS TORCH!

They've only had one other singer... His name is Bob Reid. He's pretty good too! Not as good as the Sheepdog, but still good... a more rough voice. A great album with him is Shotgun Justice... another great one with Sheepdog is Executioner's Song... Their most well known would be Evil Invaders. Don't ask me why I picked that. I was bored and well, I like that song. Oh, plus I was born the same year Schizophrenia, R.I.P., Scream Bloody Gore, Persecution Mania, The Legacy, Among The Living, and countless other thrash debuts that made their way out at that time.

w00t for me

What's more amazing is that they're coming to Australia. That's the only reason I (or anybody) could care about Anthrax nowadays. Joey Belladonna will always > John Bush.

VIO-LENCE Debut To Be Reissued In June - Mar. 31, 2005
Megaforce Records will reissue VIO-LENCE's classic debut album, "Eternal Nightmare", on CD on June 28, 2005.

Produced by John Cuniberti between February and April 1988 at Music Grinder and Alpha & Omega studios in Los Angeles and San Francisco, respectively, "Eternal Nightmare" sees brutal, speed-thrash riffage collide with a lightning-fast barrage of lyrics. The result: a sonic roller-coaster leaving listeners charged and craving more.

The epic 1988 debut, along with blistering live shows gained VIO-LENCE national tours with TESTAMENT and VOIVOD. One track, "Torture Tactics", was recorded during the sessions but deemed too lyrically controversial for inclusion on the album.

The original, out-of-print version on Mechanic Records is a tough find, especially on CD which fetches sums of up to $100 and occasionally more on eBay. Even scarcer are original Japanese and German versions on Mechanic.

VIO-LENCE's lineup on "Eternal Nightmare" included vocalist Sean Killian, bassist Deen Dell, drummer Perry Strickland, and guitarists Phil Demmel and Robb Flynn (both now in MACHINE HEAD).

Hehe. Good to see you like that CD a lot. I need to get my hands on it somehow, maybe the first EP and LP as well. I found Eternal Devastation and Mad Butcher to have some odd type of guitar tone. It sounded like a thin buzz.

I know I don't do half the work many of the others do, but I do try to lend my opinion and stuff about what I feel about some of the bands that the others aren't too keen about.
