Thats the thing though - the drumming took me so long to tune out. It really detracts from the album.

In other news, the Megadeth Sydney show is now 18+ so I am tossing up whether to buy a ticket when they go on sale tomorrow. They're about my favourite band, even with the line-up changes. I love the new record. I'm 18 in September.
Brisbane is 18+

i while back i posted, that testament sucks,

i take that back, they rock, i listend to about 3 songs and they sucked so i gave up on them. but now, there one of my favorite bands. i like the once in awhile growl.

also ive liked anthrax for awhile now but there not as heavy as testament or slayer, there more when im in a good mood, or exited about something i pop in anthrax, but if im in a bad mood, testament or slayer is going in my cd player,
anybody agree with these couple of statements, or am i just a big fool?

Only the new Testament has growls... it's the old stuff, the older the better, that's where it's at.

And yeah, Anthrax are definitely more upbeat than Slayer. Probably why I never liked them much, I'm always in a foul mood.

I don't know if anyone cares, but here are some death metal vocals I recorded. No effects or anything.

Play The Ace (Kind of bland, but still listenable)

The legendary technical metal band CORONER from Zurich, Switzerland have been asked to take part in a metal festival to take place in Chicago in late 2005. Guitarist Tommy Vetterli (a.k.a. Tommy T. Baron, more recently of KREATOR) was contacted and offered a headlining slot at the festival, which is reportedly being organized by producer Neil Kernon (NEVERMORE, QUEENSRŸCHE, CANNIBAL CORPSE, DEICIDE). If CORONER accept the offer, this will be a highly anticipated reunion of one of the most underrated technical metal bands of all time.

Anyone interested in keeping up to date on happenings with a possible CORONER reunion are encouraged to check out the "unofficial CORONER web site" at this location.

If you wish to lend your support to the idea that CORONER should participate in the upcoming festival, feel free to post on their message board and let them know (the bandmembers reportedly watch this board).

From the Destruction website:

"At the moment `Our boys` are recording the new album "Inventor of evil" together with Peter Tätgtren, V.O. Pulver and their Live engineer Franky Winkelmann.

Three different Studio´s in Germany, Switzerland and Sweden will be involved in the production-process!

The mix will be done by Mr. Tätgtren at the Abyss Studio´s in Sweden.

Release date for europe will be august 15th on the new label AFM records. In the rest of the world the new masterpiece will be released a little later this summer.

It looks like some surprise guest will be featured on the new album (like ex-guitarwizz Harry)

Nevertheless there will also be a new tune featuring many `well-known` Metalsingers from all exiting styles, for a song that is dealing with more unity and tolerance in the `szene`!

Rumours say that the famous `butcher` will have an impressive return on the frontcover!

Please stay tuned for more news soon...."

Lets hope this album is a solid, well worthy keeper >_<

They don't get out of Toronto or Canada too often? Where abouts do you live? Maybe they'll come there one day!

They played plenty of great old and new cuts.
Forged in Fire, Winged Assassins, March of the Crabs, 666, Metal on Metal, White Rhino(complete with amazing drum solo), and a bunch more.
The highlight was definitely when Lips came out into middle of the crowd to play March of the Crabs with his ear to ear smile.

Schweet! I'm going to get that game next. XD I have been meaning to get it for years, but never got the chance to buy it for a good bargin. Now that it's older, it'll be easier to get for less than 30 bucks.

You know what really rocks? When you're listening to Pleasure to Kill. Here's what you can do if you're bored:

-Play Riot of Violence and put the Riot cheat on. Then start a huge *** riot and FIGHT TILL DEATH!

-Play Pleasure To Kill and start murdering everyone in sight. Rip them to shreds, chop their heads off, do whatever it takes.

I personally like the Riot of Violence idea. Gives a whole new meaning to the song :D

Here's an old video game/music experience with Thrash I had awhile ago:

I decided during Christmas Vacation to try beating the hard path on Star Fox (The OLD SCHOOL version...now the new stuff X_X). While I was playing, I was listening to Sodom's One Night in Bangkok. For some reason, that stuff tends to really just be a great good luck charm because I obliterated everything in sight...well just about everything before I was shot down for good.

Metal-archives says the US Rigor Mortis have a song on their other full-length (Rigor Mortis vs the Earth) called Speedwhore, so I suppose it is them. And apparently Immolation used to be known as Rigor Mortis, too.

Haha, that's hilarious. Best Drummer has been brought up before I think, by me of all people. Mind you that was ages ago. I'll stick to my guns and carry on with Charlie Benante. He's not the best, that's probably Gene Hoglan, but he's my favourite.

idk about thrash drummer but the drummer of manowar is amazing,
if i was in a band with lars, i would get so annoyed just by the way he talks, its annoying. and the fact that he is bring the entire band down. that would annoy me too.

ForiegnPenguin
03-16-2005, 08:27 PM
Manowar isn't really thrash. Although Gene Hoglan is great, his best work doesn't fall into the thrash catagory. I've always thought Lombardo and if Christy counts, he would take my vote.

ThrashMaster27
03-16-2005, 08:33 PM
Richard Christy? Well, Iced Earth are usually lodged in Power or Thrash, so he can be counted. Yeah, I guess Hoglans best work was later on, although his Drumming in Dark Angel is pretty spiffy.

everyone should check out this band called Watch Tower if you haven't before, the are considered Technical, Progressive Thrash. It's great stuff reminds me of a mix between Fates Warning, Control Denied, and Metal Church, but with a lot of thrash incorperated. It's great stuff

Well, they're on it I guess.

Are you guys as sick of hearing about Trivium as I am? Everywhere I look it's some n00b babbling about how "trivium r the savyors of metal, thy ar trash metal, u kno like trash revival, anyway they sound like AJFA-era metallica but fastar and hevier, u shud relly check them out". They usually also throw in something ignorant like "they're the only good metal band around these days."
In case you haven't heard them, they're a gayass metalcore band. I don't know how on earth anyone got the idea they were thrash, same with Shadows Fall and Lamb of God. Maybe they were thrash on their demos or something. Anyways, I think to first goal of the DtP Crew should be to kill all the Trivium fanboys.

Seriously, that riff Bello plays at the end of the intro, it's just so awesome, and then the drumming gets heavy too.

Towards the end, I noticed the songs get faster, which is kickass. I didn't expect Anthrax to get that thrashy.

Coroner though. GOD ****...this is like brutal technical in a blender thrash. Ron's bass playing...I looked at some pics too, and he plays without a pick. Those riffs are ****ing complet to, and it's amazing just to hear the technicality of Coroner.

Heh. I made my name a looong time ago. December 2003 in fact. So that is irrelevant. Bestial Devastation is IMO not very well played, its kinda sloppy. But the later thrash albums are much better. I love them. Especially BtR. I don't much like Chaos Ad, but I do feel its better then Bestial Devastation.

Dargon, The Haunted aren't whiffle-thrash. They aren't even thrash!

Whiffle-thrash is highly polished (production-wise) and politically charged thrash with watered-down and repetitive riffs. Some whiffle-thrash is good though, because the riffs are good at times and don't bore you when they are repeated. Note how in my profile I stated against bad whiffle-thrash.

Notable whiffle-thrash albums:

Testament - Practice What You Preach

Exodus - Fabulous Disaster (Not fully a whiffed album, though helped usher in the genre. An example of a good "whiffed" thrash album.)

Exodus - Impact Is Imminent (WHIFF! Only Death Decides is a good song though.)

Would Master of Puppets and other early Metallica fall into this category? it seems like they would to me.

I got Testament's legacy album (greatest hits exept they don't really have hits ;)). It's awesome.

Would Exodus be another band to check into?

Definately! Go for Bonded By Blood by them to start off with.

Definately not. Those albums (Except for AJFA) were neither highly-polished nor politcally-charged, and definitely featured some great riffs.

Thinking that those albums were whiffed makes me wonder if you've even listened to them.

What would a good Sadus album be?

Illusions (although now it's known as Chemical Exposure).

Heh I've listened to them so much. They were my first thrash albums. They do have great riffs and such. They just became boring to me after a while. I was thinking your definition of whiffle thrash was that kind of slower metal, still fairly fast, but not extreme, that bands like Metallica used to play.

Ah, I see what you're saying. Sorry if my earlier post seemed harsh.

There are many great thrash labels, but if I had to pick one I think SPV/Steamhammer has been putting out a few solid records as of late. They're kinda "mainstream" though.

Metalblade produces a few good Thrash bands too. But like SPV, they seem to be going mainstream too.

Ahh great decision. Start with either "Years of Decay" or "Horroscope", which are their spotlight albums. Then depending on which you enjoy more (they sound pretty similar in style), either try Overkill's new music, or their beggining stuff. If you liked Horroscope as the better, go for a newer album like "WFO" or "Necroshine", then if you like Years of, go for one of their early solid thrash releases like "Taking Over" or "Feel the Fire" (my avatar)
