This is a stupid question but: What is the difference between speed and thrash metal? I always thought they were the same and used the terms interchangeably, but it seems like there is a difference. What is it?

Ive always wondered about it myself. i usually classify slower, more melodic as thrash (as said above) a good example of this is master of puppets. speed however, tends to abuse a certain string with a short riff following it, like battery. thats how i classify it anyway.

Speed Metal is basically just traditional Metal sped up.

Show No Mercy could be considered a speed metal album as it displays more traditional riffing. Look at the song Tormentor, thats pretty much speed metal where as songs such as Angel of Death are full blown thrash. Megadeth is a great example of straight up thrash band. remember, just because it is fast does not necessarily make it speed metal. :thumb:

and is diabolis in musica (or whatever its called) by slayer any good? i was in the Muses for some reason and, believe it or not, they have a heavy metal section!!! (pictures all of you fainting in utter disbelief) so i looked in there, whilst little thrash was at my disposal, i saw dialobis in musica for only $11!!! should i pick it up???

It's a crap album really, only a few decent tracks. I wouldn't recommend it, but it's alright for $11.

I'm going to have to say we should keep him due to the fact that he felt bad about the whole thing and that he still believes in the Thrash. It's better he reveals this shameful secret and still believe in thrash instead of him thinking nothing of it and abondoning our clan of his own volition. I vote for him to stay, but I guess 2 to 1 I was voted out by JMetallica and Deftoned. Of course, there is no way for us to just take away his status is there?

Every song ive heard by them was amazing, with the exception of purple haze, I thought the vocals were a complete joke for that song.

lol - they destroyed purple haze IMO. i reckon RIP is better than punishment for decadence [/doesnt know why i said that] and on the subject of coroner - theres a beer called corona (which i only bought because the name was similar to the band) and it is quite tasty!!!

i read that too, on a website. interesting isnt it? spiral dream's (off R.I.P album) lyrics were written by tom g warrior as well.

Who the hell would be dumb enough to take me on in a fight? I'm 6 foot 2 and weigh 275 pounds, and can bench 75 pounds more than my own weight. Also, who the hell said I didn't like thrash anymore? Just because my band changed its sound doesn't mean I threw my Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer CD's out the ****ing window. I was listening to Among the Living, Show no Mercy, and Kill Em All last night. If it's not the music I play, that doesn't mean I don't like it. Sum 41 listens to Maiden, Priest, Metallica, and Megadeth, and they don't play metal! That's it, I don't care what some of you say. I'm switching my status back to what it was, and no one can do a **** thing about it!

See the thing is this... you won't find it to buy...not for cheap anyways. It's very rare...though you should have no trouble downloading it if you so wish. Highly recommended to anyone that claims they like thrash metal.

So how did all my fellow clansmen (and my clanswoman) get into metal?

For me, I saw a sum 41 video and the guitarist was wearing an Iron Maiden shirt. (I like sum41 and linkin park back then :upset: ) Anyways I thought the shirt looked cool so I decided I would check Iron Maiden out... After 5 seconds of the graveyard opening to Hallowed Be Thy Name, I forgot all about sum. I was about 13.

I got into Metal by playing guitar. I was geting tired of being thought of as nothing while I was playing Offspring and Blink 182, and besides, my ace friend who was kicking *** (to me at the time) playing such 'technical' **** such as Stairway to Heaven and Nothing Else MAtters kicked ***. I was also getting pissed off at what I called the 'chordmasters' impressing the chicks with INcubus and Oasis. SO you can say Guitar introduced me to metal (since to get better at Metallica, I bought S&M, which led to getting Live ****), and ****ty guitarists had me focused on better quality music. Metallica led me to Ozzy, Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden and to a lesser extent, Megadeth and Testament. INtersestingly enough, I hear what people said about **** like Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park introducing you to the real **** and is like a gateway to real metal, but that never happened for me. I liked them a one point (and still like KoRN), but it never pushed me to getting into Metal like GUitar does. (On another side note, I thought Metallica kicked *** in 1997 when I saw the Memory Remains clip, but I just wasn't into music at age 10)

I saw the cover for Iron Maiden Seventh Son of a Seventh Son and I thought it looked amazing. So I bought it with hard saved poscket money and much pestering of parents (I was 10). My borther also liked it so he bought Metallica "And Justice for All". Later that year we saw Metallica but unfortunately missed Maiden.

Ahhhhhhhh the process of getting into Metal.....It was all my Stepdads influence really. When I was 9 he used to take me down to a second hand CD store with all the mad Metal there....I remember buying a few Megadeth, Guns N' Roses and AC/DC albums.....plus an Anthrax CD with a guy on the front with a big foot! Don't remember what single it was though.

Furthermore I remember in Year 7 of school we were allowed to cover our maths books with whatever cover we liked.......so I ripped my ...And Justice For All poster off the wall and covered my maths book with it. Great days!

My dad's CD collection. I listened to Master Of Puppets and Powerslave, and I just loved those CD's a bunch. Those Cd's got me away from Limp Bizkit and led me to Slayer, Megadeth, Testament, Overkill, Dimmu Borgir, Meshuggah, and countless other real metal bands.

I love Scott Ian.........one of the Rhythm Masters. I caught 'Thrax in Manchester back in March....the majorly ripped the stage up. All the classics were played and I held John Bush for Anti-Social.....it was class indeed!

I got into metal by meing an insomniac my seventh grade year. I stayed up and watched the Rock Show hosted by Scott Ian from Anthrax (The Man Himself). I saw some nu-metal bands that I liked, such as Godsmack and Slipknot, but the kicker was at the end of the show. VH1 played Megadeth's Wake Up Dead, Metallica's One, Anthrax's I'm The Man and Only, Exodus' Toxic Waltz, Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast, and Judas Priest's You've Got Another Thing Comin'. I was mesmerized. I wanted to hear more, I wanted to play it. I loved it.
Recently, it took me listening to Anthrax's Among the Living, Sound of White Noise, and We've Come for you All to make me realize how much I love thrash. I also noticed that John Bush has a deeper voice than I do, and he sings thrash. Just because the slower stuff I write sounds a little different doesn't mean I should comprimise my sound for my passion. You guys helped me realize that, and I thank you.

I got into metal because I've got the coolest mom in the whole **** world. From an early age I was exposed to Zeppelin and Metallica. My Mom has every Zeppelin album ever on vinyl, tape and cd. She has basically everything they ever released. She is also a huge classic rock fan, so that built my foundation up pretty well. Soon I started going off by myself and getting into heavier stuff (I didn't really start getting into looking for music til middle school). A few years ago I really started listening to the old Metallica a lot, and found Slayer. Since then, life has never been the same.

For the record I am just an almost-16 year old sophomore kid, the most advanced metalhead in my town.

Got into metal at Grade 4, all thanks to Twisted Metal 3. It played like some Rob Zombie and stuff like that, and soon I checked out some other stuff, like Fear Factory, Pitchshifter, Godflesh and In Flames, and started listening to them. I also got into some numetal like AHC and Soulfly, but not a lot really.
Then I started getting into Black and Death metal (age 12), with my first bands being Tiamat, In Flames, Sepultura and Nile. Now I enjoy a lot of metal (except power) and, I am ever thankful to TM3.

i cant remember how i got into metal music. probably from my indie volume 8 CD :lol: and it had mudvayne - dig. i remember though, i used to think i was so hard core because i listened to that song, quite sad really. natural progression took place (i.e. me growing up past the age of which you like mudvayne: about 13) and yeah. my dad has the strictest taste in music, so he only has a few records, and my mum, well, her favourite bands are INXS and don mclean. says a lot doesnt it? so im pleased to say that my parents did NOT influence my music taste :p

I use a Epiphone Les Paul standard (quite a beauty). I run it through a Dunlop Original Crybaby Wah into a Boss Super OverDrive into a Kustom KGA65. However, the Kustom is badly messed up and I'm probably going to get a Randall RG200 Combo for my birthday next month.

Nice setup, how does the V play?

The V plays beautifully, although solos which use a lot of big bends are a bit tricky, as I use .12 gauge strings, and am tuned to C in the most part. Having said that, I do get the advantage of sounding extremely heavy. For my more technical and/or delicate moments I also have a beautifully set up Ibanez RG, which I keep in standard tuning, but for my band stuff, it's the V all the way.

I prefer Titans of Thrash, as my previous thingy was Thrash of the Titans. Plus there is significance to Titans, mainly pertaining to the huge tour of 91'. There is already a horde, and i think something like Thrashers Horde would sound better than "Horde of Thrash".. just doesn't sound right imo.

AJFA is a good album all in all, but some of the songs are kind of weak as far as thrash is concerned and are sometimes too long for their own good. I realise that it is epic and all, but you can be epic and still thrash the **** out. My favourite song on the album is Frayed Ends of Sanity, as it does both: It's epic, progressive thrash! :D

st anger isnt that bad!! there are some decent songs on there (dirty window, frantic) that are good thrash songs, but without a vital ingredient: solos! i couldnt give a **** that the drums sound like garbage cans (they are better (sound quality) than half of early thrash, i.e Show no mercy, welcome to hell) i definately rate it above load and re-load, and even over the black album. but it is nothing compared to earlier metallica.

and as for nosferatu, you can get it fairly regularily on kazaa. i dont use soulseek, i cant get it to work. can anyone else recommend another good sharing program, preferrably with lots and lots and lots of metal available? :chug: cheers

O.K first of all, My favorite(s) (couldn't decide between the two) are ride the lightning and AJFA. What I like about it is the complexity of the tunes (although I prefer the solos on the RTL album) and the cool riffs that came out of that album( Frayed ends of sanity, To live is to die etc...) its one of the first albums that I listen to and that I like the songs as a whole. Not just liking part of it and another part etc... And although RTL was a great thrash album (first time I listened to the Fight Fire with Fire intro, I was like :amaze: :thumb: ) something about AJFA that I find better. Its just me.

I<d like you guys to give me some ideas of other bands I could listen to. So
I could listen to other bands than metallica and guns n roses. Anything would
be appreciated. Cause I have't been into thrash for as long as you guys. One day a bit less then two years ago, some friend came to my house and made me listen to ONE. And I freaked out over the last three minutes. Ever since I<ve been listening to anything Rock-Metal related.(But only the biggest known bands which I find is too bad because I know other bands a have material too, Thats where I need your help).

I don't really care about the drums either. You can flame me if you want, but I actually like the sound of the snare drum in St. Anger. (I mean the song). I
think some songs are decent on St. Anger, but I HATE shoot me again. Makes me want to shoot myself everytime I hear it.

I have one question though. why is it that everyone thinks the st.anger(I mean album) lyrics are crap. I like frantic's lyrics. (Notice a couple of phrases on the song St. Anger that were allready on Damage Inc.

We're one of the biggest clans. (definiately cool)

I don't really like the musical tastes of some of the clans though. Basically, I listen to the same stuff as the Circle of Bards(Maiden, Priest, and Iced Earth) and the Baphomet Horde (Immortal and Thrash Bands). I freaking hate prog rock. They should have the members of Dream Theatre get in a fist fight with the members of Slayer or Anthrax.

shame the quality isn't more than 64k......think it would sound a lot better if it was. I liked the vocals actually, they have that Brazilian feel.....foreign vocals always sound the best!

I agree 100%. I've always loved Sodom's, Destruction's and Coroner's (the best of the Europeans) vocals more than their American counterparts... and Brazillians sound just the same. :D

Sepultra's early stuff is great. What do you guys think of Max's new band, Soulfly? I saw them at Ozzfest a few years back, and I thought they were pretty good. That's just me, though.

I'm English....I moved over here like 10 months ago, And yeah! Venom, along with Motorhead and other random bands started the Thrash scene off. Good choice with Exodus there and Peace Sells is an ace album.....might shove it on in a second.

Sadus's aggression can not be matched in the old school thrash field.

I'm not much of an Anthrax fan myself... I despise Joey Belladonna, and I just think there's better music out there as well.

I've just got a track by a thrash band I'd never heard of before, they're called Sacrifice. The track I've got is called "Soldiers of Misfortune", and it's excellent! All I know about the band is what BNR Metal Pages has told me though. Has anybody here heard/heard of this band? And if so what do you think?

i'm doin a cert IV in music! biggest bludge ever. during a 1 hour theory lesson me and this dude were talking about death and thrash metal for like the entire lesson it was great.

i like hammetts stuff best... nothing can beat solos like phantom lord and hit the lights. * is not a fanboy* also the guy from kreator, i dont know his name. some of his solos are incredible!!
