No opinion - haven't listened to them. I have heard bad things about them though.

If you've ever seen the mosh pits at a Slayer show, then you know what Pro Pain looks like...

Yep. I said it. They all look like "White Power" skinheads. Kind of bugs me because if they're playing, well, I'm not going to the Enemy of God tour. I'm not going to risk my *** getting slaughtered by some moron who thinks "me being hispanic is a right to him to beat the **** out of me".

TESTAMENT lead vocalist Chuck Billy and founding guitarist Eric Peterson have announced that original guitar player Alex Skolnick and original bassist Greg Christian (HAVOCHATE), along with previous TESTAMENT drummer Johnny Tempesta (HELMET, ex-ROB ZOMBIE), will be joining them for a reunion tour of Europe, taking place between May 7 and May 15 ONLY. The tour will last for a total of nine shows, according to the group's management.

Each of the other three musicians has other bands, projects, and recordings coming out, but they have all agreed to join forces with Chuck and Eric to blow out this limited reunion tour in May. Billy commented, "I'm in music to enjoy it, and playing with my old bandmates after all these years will be killer!" Peterson added, "This reunion tour takes me back 20 years, the fans will freak seeing us together again!"

Kreator was great, they still got if after all these years.

Dark Tranquillity was slightly disappointing, I like them a lot, but they didn't play very long and didn't seem to play their best songs. Lots of new stuff and I hardly recognised any songs.

Ektomorf was funny, the guy looked like Max Cavalera, acted like Max Cavalera and sounded EXACTLY like Max Cavalera. They sounded like Soulfly though, not Sepultura. They were alright. They were a Hungarian band, it's funny when he said 'All the people in the floor'.

Hatesphere was another metalcore band with a bit of death influence, not bad though, but nothing amazing..

I'm exhausted though, that's what I hate about concerts, standing up for sooo long.

Alright, well I redeemed the Napster card my mom gave to me, and well, Napster sucks for music. They have some good stuff, but the rest of it is crap. Hopefully I'll get the good stuff before 14 days are up.

Although I like Napster's samples. They play mostly the entire song if they have entire track. I was listening Angel of Death (Live - Anaheim) from the Soundtrack To The Apocalypse box set, and man...Tom sounds like those girls from a horror movie when their either dying or are scared ****less. Mortifier sounds like Testament (The Gathering Era) and Kreator (Cause for Conflict era). To me, I just finished sampling The Gathering, and I don't see anything wrong with it. As long as it's brutal, heavy as ****, as well as aggressive, I'm happy :D

Music = Music

Edit: Well the vocals sound a bit like Sodom and later Sepultura now that've listened to Total Darkness. Not bad...I wish I could accomplish this kind of sound with a band, only if i can find the members for it. I'm sick of LA's poor metal scene...we need THRASH!

Where's the givers of Thrash when you need them?

RCA

Well, I listened to the Dead Trooper demo earlier.

It wasn't what I expected to hear from a Norwegian thrash band. It's pretty melodic, and at times they go into power metal mode. The vocals are clean and have no bite whatsoever, but that doesn't take away from some of the riffs that are on display here. There was one song called Violence Spiral, which was really good. There was even a blast beat part in it!

All in all, pretty mediocre stuff aside from Violence Spiral. I'll have to check into the band's latest demo to see if they wrote any better songs.

Aside from Dead Trooper, I'm listening to "Machine Gun" by Saxon, which totally ****ing owns.

It's a file-sharing program.

Think mIRC mixed with Limewire. It is one of the best programs to use to d/l and share music.

Wicked awesome \m/. What kind of sound are you guys aiming for? I seriously need to get a new replacement guitar and put up a flyer so I can find people to play thrash metal with.

When that Sodom CD gets there, there shall be chaos and thunder...oh wait, that's just the drums, guitars and pounding bass. Still, I'm sure whatever you ordered, you'll be extremely satisfied.

Definitely worth the 32 bucks  The price tag for the DVD said "24.99", but when they rang it up, it said 19.99. I didn't bother to argue, since I didn't have to shell out more money since the computer fixed that problem. So far, I love this DVD. The concert is pure energy, and the second disc is really interesting. I cracked up when Blitz remembers saying **** YOU in the bar in Poland when he was drunk. Now that is some good advice, but also hilarious.

Remember kiddies, the saying "**** YOU" is understood all over :D

Well, that's gotta be a tough one. I got asked to play in a band that wanted to do "Metallica/Anthrax guitars with Maiden-ish vocals", but I want to do extreme german thrash (ala Sodom, Destruction, Kreator, Holy Moses) with some other influences such as Overkill, Testament (heavy moments, people), Dark Angel, Sepultura, and well, I'm out of ideas...well that's about it.

Good luck with your situation. Hopefully it all works out :thumb:

I really dont think Testament get the amount of credit they deserve, like
most thrash bands.

Most people i know only rate Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth, and Slayer
as the only worthy thrash bands whereas i beg to differ.

There all good bands but there old albums havent really aged that well,
whereas IMO bands like Kreator,Testament, Death Angel... among others
still sound fresh.

But don't get me wrong, Megadeth and Slayer are my favourite thrash bands.

IMO all of the bands in the "big 4" have their moments, (apart from Anthrax, who i just don't like :p), but Slayer probably come out as the most consistent. All of the big 4 are still overated though, with only a handfull of good-great albums, while other bands are much more consistent at releasing good material.

The band I recommended was Mortifer, not Mortifier.

And yes, Testament are overrated and kept the best song they ever wrote off of their first studio album, but I still kinda like them.

Concerning the Big 4, none of them deserve to be in it anymore. Metallica are Malltallica now, Megadeth just doesn't have it anymore, Anthrax modernized and grooved their music up, and Slayer (particularly Kerry King) need to re-tune their guitars back to E, and take Slipknot's **** out of his mouth.

Still can't deny great albums like Hell Awaits, Peace Sells, and Ride The Lightning though.

They're a local group here in Puerto Rico. They played at a metal fest the other night and I couldn't go 'cause it was in the mountains in the middle of the island somewhere.

Yeah, I guess that's just what it boils down to, personal opinion. I try not to let vocals ruin a band for me though. I think if the music is there, but the vocals suck, then the band is still a keeper. There are of course exceptions, like when vocals are mixed WAAAY too high for their own good.

You should really try to focus on 'Kill's music, as it is some of the best thrash metal has ever seen. Just concentrate on ze riffage.

Thrash can be melodic, but there is no defined subgenre named melodic thrash. Your head was in the right place though, so don't feel stupid.

i have a question. this may be a stupid one but im jsut getin into thrash (except slayer,l been a slayer fan for awhile)
bands like anthrax, testament are like sing, not as hard core as bands like slayer, strapping young lad. is there like sub genre's or is strapping young lad not thrash. idk?

Well there's different types of thrash that can depend on the location/region of the band (but not always) ala Bay Area thrash, German thrash, etc.

If you count death/thrash as a subgenre, then you might as well count power/thrash, speed/thrash, black/thrash, and progressive-thrash as subgenres.

Check out Heathen and Ulysses Siren, you might like them.

Why would you ask in here? No problem though. Anyways, I'm not too knowledgable about old-school florida death metal... Obituary would work. Deicide's s/t, of course. Er, you could try Pentagram (Chile)... bit hard tracking down their albums though. How about Facebreaker - Bloodred Hell. I just got that one.

Griffin_Page: For some old-school death metal, try out Darkthrone's "Soulside Journey". For some Floridian styled old-school death metal, go with Dargon's suggestion of Obituary, "Cause of Death" being the album to get.

Dargon, Agent Steel own! Most of their stuff is top-notch speed metal.

As for whoever asked who can match Hetfield's 80's riffing, a two-year-old with the worst motor skills ever could riff better than him, because 3/4 of Metallica's riffs in the 80's were written by Dave Mustaine.

Two riffs were also stolen from Exodus (Trapped Under Ice verse riff, Creeping Death chorus riff). Sure, they were Hammett's riffs to begin with, but those riffs were already layed to vinyl before they were used by Metallica.

Metallica is to creativity, as sunlight is to nighttime.
