Ive got a few tracks off Metal Church. It's pretty good, plus I like the cover of Deep Purple's Highway Star :thumb:

I think its Jmetallica had a link to download a few of their albums as well.

Just in today:

Ulysses Siren - Above the Ashes
Aura Noir - Black Thrash Attack
Exodus - Die By His Hand 7" vinylRip that Ulysses Siren and I will be leeching it. I found a guy with dial-up who has it, so I was able to get 3/4 of a song after one hour of downloading. :-/

Superpeer: That was retarded. I'll be afraid to ever distort a band name again.

Here it is:-

Added another thrash classic in time for the Jagermeister Music Tour coming to my town on Friday:

Slayer - Hell Awaits

I was just obbessed with trying to get it and so I finally was able to yesterday XD

Random: My friend called me a few mintues asking me when Enemy of God is going to come out. :amaze:

RavenousMetalist87
12-12-2004, 11:51 AM
I totally can't remember the exact date on when it comes out, but I'm for sure going to get a copy of it because it sounds like a good album so far.

I was just wondering because on the sleeve there's a picture of Tom and he's playing bass without pick, whereas now I feel that he plays with a pick.

Is it just me or did the riffs become too hard to finger pick the strings or did Tom just get lazy?

I'm stumped XD

sensitiveorgan00
12-12-2004, 12:53 PM
Oh snap, I never realized that Tom played with his fingers on Hell Awaits till now. He probably got lazy, since bass in Slayer's music isn't a big deal. However, you can actually hear some bass riffs on a few songs off of Hell Awaits.

RavenousMetalist87
12-12-2004, 04:23 PM
Oh well, the basslines are superb on Hell Awaits. Thick, loud, and thumpy.

In other news, I bought 2 more thrash classics:

Possessed - Seven Churches
Sepultura - Beneath The Remains

What's even better is that it's only 5 days until I see Slayer! \m/:evil:\m/

I've been meaning to some Sepultura for a while, what are the best albums to buy?

RavenousMetalist87
12-12-2004, 04:46 PM
I'm seeing them at the Universal Ampitheater in Universal City. It's in California, plus its in the same county where Slayer formed, plus I live only like 20-30 minutes from where Slayer formed back in the days.

For Sepultura suggestions, I strongly suggest Schizophrenia. Fast, aggressive, and pounding like a ten ton sledgehammer.

Beneath The Remains is like Schizophrenia, but it's not as raw and dirty sounding (Schizo's production sounds like a vintage record XD). It's more thrashy sounding than early death metal sounding.

Arise is said to be the thrasiest of them all. I would recommend this one last, whereas nothing tops BnR and Schizophrenia for me...that is...except Morbid Visions.

Morbid Visions is something I should look into on the audio samples first. More of a death metal sounding album, but I am actually enjoying the way it sounds, even if I don't have it.

I'd get a few more suggestions first. This just my personal opinion.

I fail to see why it's the beginning of death metal, sure they coined the term, but the riffs are thrash, the production is black and the vocals are also black

Arise is the least thrashy of all their early stuff... anyways, the first 4 albums are good to great. You are correct in assuming that Schizophrenia is the best one. It wins for having ...Storms and Inquisition Symphony on it.

SODOM: DVD To Surface In March, Studio Album To Follow In August - Dec. 14, 2004
Veteran German thrashers SODOM are tentatively scheduled to release their first DVD in March 2005. According to SODOM frontman Thomas "Angelripper" Such, the DVD's concert footage will will contain 23 songs. An overview of the band's career thus far and additional bonus features will also appear on the disc. "Such a giant DVD we make only once in a lifetime, so I don't want to make compromises in quality and completeness," Angelripper had previously said. Peace sells has pretty much every song is great.

I don't think that there is any difference regarding the playlist on what's called the 'Concertfilm', except that on the DVD Flag of Hate and Tormentor are Special Features.
But also on the special features there are a lot of their videos over the years, e.g. Toxic Trace, Betrayer, People of the Lie, Terrorzone and Violent Revolution. Plus a running timeline showing them from like 82-84 - Present, man they look so young(in '82-84).
Probably the only downside is, and it's quite a big deal really, is that on the little sticker they put on the front of the DVD case they spelt THRASH wrong  ,when will they learn? Probably when Dargon has finished beating them whilst shouting 'It's THRASH not TRASH!!!!! AAARRRGGHHH! GGGRRRR!!!' :naughty:

I haven't listened to them... I'm leery of new, new-school thrash. I always equate new music the critics call "new thrash" with either Pantera, Shadows Fall or (can't think of a band playing this style) - (Metalcore, Groove Metal or Gothenburg-influenced thrash)

HEATHEN To Enter Studio In January - Dec. 21, 2004
Reunited San Francisco Bay Area thrashers HEATHEN are scheduled to enter the studio in January to begin recording their new full-length album. An early spring release through an as-yet-undetermined label is expected.

HEATHEN are currently in the process of booking a tour for 2005. Those interested in booking HEATHEN in 2005 can contact management at tambre@heathenmetal.com.

In other news, HEATHEN have been forced to abandon their plans for a DVD release dur to "legal problems." The group are continuing to offer refunds for DVDs purchased via PayPal. If you haven't received your refund, contact the band at info@heathenmetal.com.

As previously reported, HEATHEN recently announced the addition of bassist Jon Torres to the group's ranks. Torres is no stranger to the Bay Area metal scene, having participated in such bands as THUNDERHEAD, WARNING SF, ULYSSES SIREN, LAAZ ROCKIT and ANGEL WITCH. The band, who are currently unsigned, released their latest CD, "Recovered", independently this past spring. The effort featured covers of songs from QUEEN, THIN LIZZY, TYGERS OF PAN TANG and SWEET SAVAGE, as well as an original track, "In Memory of…" (written and dedicated to former band member Randy Laird and lead vocalist David White's brother Jeffrey).

Just recently I was playing an old game (Star Fox) while listening to Sodom's One Night in Bangkok again, and this time I reached the last level but for some reason...the enemy's head looked like a demon...I wonder if that's part of the game or if I am eating too much cake again XD

Anywho, I definetely want to cover a few thrash tunes live:

Agent Orange
Coma of Souls
Fight Till Death

and some stuff from Coroner, Destruction, maybe one Metallica song, and a few from Exodus, Testament and I haven't decided on what else x_x

I think after that experience my brain's been funky all day...hmm...I'll get over it. That was pretty awesome though because I was like "wtf?" and started laughing because I didn't know if it was part of the game...

I didn't know you were in a band. Any way I can hear you play?

Well I'm stuck between 2:

One is supposedly a prog-ish one, but I can't stand to be around the guy who fronts it because he acts like he is the master of all guitar, but when he plays, the first thing that comes to mind is Kerry King XD.

The second one hasn't auditioned me at all yet, but they're like freshman so I'm kind of just going to see which one will accept thrash.

The first one which is fronted by a good friend of mine said "oh thrash is too easy...and slower metal is better".

Yet I get a heads up from our bassist that my friend wants to turn the band sort of "punk-ish".

The freshman want to do a "melodic-thrash" band, but I hope I can convince them to think twice...

If not, well, I guess I can try recording a few things on here. My new Peavey is just as crunchy as she's been since the day I brought her home...yep...great amp I got :D

Covering thrash songs live is so fun. My band covered Tormentor (Slayer), Black Magic (Slayer) and Symptom of the Universe (Black Sabbath) live. Good times.

Well the only band I can find that is pretty good is Vertigo, a local band from LA that has like 2 songs for listening to...I forgot their site but if I can find it, I'll post it here.

There's another band called Cereberus (or soemthing like that), but...

The thing with these modern day thrash bands (from what I can see) is that they try to sound COMPLETELY DIFFERENT in the vocal department. To me, they sound like their trying to be all "hardcore" or "imitate a death metal growl" very poorly...

Now if they sounded like Max during the Schizophrenia days or Jeff Becerra, I'd be more happy :)

ThrashMaster27
12-22-2004, 10:39 PM

That's also one of my life goals, to start/be in a thrash band, I'm good friends with the frontman of a local band who had early aspirations to be thrash, they covered Raining Blood, Seasons in the Abyss, The Four Horsemen, Seek & Destroy and their demo had some great thrash riffs but they changed slightly and they started to draw inspirtation from KsE etc, and although it's still good, they're drifting further away from thrash more and more.
I am probably not yet good enough to play in a band, I can play rhythm but if I was gonna play rhythm I'd also wanna sing, but I have enough trouble just doing one :upset: . I'll either get better/good at lead or I'll learn to sing and play, then I'll try and join a band or start one, I probably won't take preference on thrash either, I'll just try and get the performing experience then I'll try and get a thrash band together :D

I know someone like that. He thought Slipknot were thrash and Cradle of Filth were a ultra heavy black metal band. He tries to impress me with his "thrash knowledge" such as trying to name more than 1 east coast thrash band. He failed. Miserably.

Sepultra-Arise
Megadeth-Killing is My Buisness and Buiness Is good

I was also wondering if any of you heard Metal Church and knew if they were any good?

Overkill = Ownage. Got I hear black the other day, so i only need to get The Killing Kind and Taking Over. The Years Of Decay is their best album, if i had to choose one. Although i think they arent so much a highlights band as they are a **** solid band.

Metal Church = AWesome. Not quite as good as Overkill, but top 10 material nevertheless. And i dont know why people call them soley a 'Thrash' band, as they really arent just thrash. Kind of HEAVY Trad band, mixed with some power/thrash. But who cares. They own.

Yes there suggestions.... Yes, yes indeed! Although, there are a few simple rules that need need to be followed when contemplating purchasing a Metal Church album. Rule #1 : Metal Church don't make bad music. Period. Rule #2 : Metal Church don't make bad music. Keeping these rules in mind, there are certain albums that a 'better' or 'more accessible' and those that are more varied and left field.

For starters, you really can't go past their debut album. It just screams CLASSIC. Um, yeah; CLASSIC! Get this cd first.

And then get every album in historically ascending order, and you wont go wrong. Um, download 'Beyond the Black' 'Metal Church' and 'Watch The Children Play' to get a rough taste of their first two albums, purchase them and then go out and get the rest. Awesome.

And ThrashMaster... I've been thinking about your comments on Destruction sounding NWOBHMish - and they do seem to sound like it before release of agony. Probably mostly due to a thin production and the leads. Although it's still thrash: If you gave the same tunes a more beefy production, im thinking they'd sound atleast a little like exumer (although not like kreator or sodom, as they are quite different musically). Im listening to All Hell Breaks Loose atm, and the whole thing sounds pretty dame thrashy, aswell as the re-recorded Total Desaster. So Yeah, in conlusion - Yes - production wise and yes to a certain degree in song writing.

I Predict a more coherant, detailed post will be added at a later date... but i really cant be fooked atm. :D

The hardest decision ever is Peace Sells vs. Rust in Peace.

Peace sells has pretty much every song is great.

But Rust has much better songs (holy wars), and also some ****ty songs (lucretia).

Overall I'd have to go with neither one.

Ohhh no...

Rust in Peace wins this..Peace sells is good, best song on it i think is My Last Words.... but with rust every song is class!

I was just looking over the first 20 pages or so and was just wondering whatever happened to a few of the early members especially Deftoned? I doubt you know but I'm just curious and have nothing better to do.

I haven't been on here for months. The general state of the forums here is fücking atrocious. Apart from this thread, R&M has lowered itself to "Met vs 'Deth' and lots of *OFFICIAL* threads. This threads come along nicely, I've read the last 30 pages or so. I can't beleive something I was involved in has garnered so much support, and it's always good to see fresh faces. *wipes tear from eye* When I get DSL I believe I'll be posting in here alot more. This new 'rep' system is interesting, I'd can only beleive what type of rep I'd have if it was back here in the day hehe. Well, this thread alone is worth 5 stars eh? :thumb:

Haha, gday mate. Was wondering where you had headed off to. Glad to see you are still alive and well. :D

And i can totally empathise with you. This is pretty much the only thread i post in nowdays, unless the odd topic jumps out at me on the first page.

Oh well. God speed getting broad band. Once you have it, youll never look back. :D

Im in...haha I listened to That Dark Angel Album in Virgin Megastore the other day...didnt have enough cash to buy it GR :upset: i was looking for Death Angel and i couldnt find it so i listened to dark angel...interesting!

Is Death Angel - Ultra Violence any good???

Yes, and Yes. It struck me as interesting also when i first heard of the two angels. Even more interesting, both them are great! The ultra violence Death angels best album. When you get the cash, purchase it. But only when you have bought Darkness Descends as DFA kick larger amounts of arse.

Deftoned just let me know he made a post here. I worship at the altar or thrash. Speaking of Met vs Deth, I don't think any Metallica album is as **** listenable as Rust in Peace (Peace Sells and The System Has Failed are close behind). Metallica bore me a bit *hides*. I like their best songs, but can rarely stomach a whole album because whatever you listen to, it's always the beginning of the end.

I've got about 40 or so posts in here, so thought I'd stake my claim. Biggest thread ever.

How big is a 44 Jmet? Any idea what is is equivalent to in European sizes? I would imagine by the sounds of it that it's too big for me, but if I can work out the size business then we'll talk :thumb:

Oh and with regard to that Metal Church link, can you remember if Enemy of God was on there? Because when I last looked it was there, and I helped myself to it :naughty:

But only when you have bought Darkness Descends...

I listened to it a few months ago, mainly because of this thread and I must say it's intense, but after giving it a dozen or so plays went back to Reign in Blood.

It's good for a bit of a change in pace if that makes sense at all.

I've been listening to a lot of Anthrax lately, the new Dark Tranquility and Soilwork records and finally listened to the Shadows Fall album. And some Agnostic Front.

Is Act III by Death Angel any good? I saw it cheap recently but didn't buy it.

Yes Slatanic, the Enemy of God stuff was on there too.

Slatanic-666; I quoted you there, if I didn't search my user name in posts on the forum (I was bored and interested to see if anyone realised i was gone haha), I wouldn't have returned here.

I wouldn't worry about having to hide, that's what opinion is all about, the only people who would flame your *** for saying that are 'tallica fanboys who believe Metallica are the only good metal band around.
My personal opinion of Metallica is that they made 3 maybe 4 decent albums, sometimes touching the edges of thrash then they decided to take the money.

Well, through boredom I decided to look over the whole thread and noticed you didn't post anymore, I was just being curious(nosy) :naughty:

I'm figuring out what my best of Metallica would be. Probably in the order of 10 or 12 songs.
