why what's the matter?

Yaaay, someone asked. Now I have a valid reason for whining

No, seriously though:

First off, the incredibly cool and great in every way teacher I have in my University class just got replaced with one of the dumbest, oldest, and most anoyingly boring and irrational persons I've ever met in my entire life. this dude waits two weeks for us to learn notation, music theory and musical descriptions, and then introduces a whole new system (which he invented himself, consisting of dollar signs and such, to show chord variations), telling us to get used to it or **** off (essentially).

Later the very same day, I'm riding my bike down this street I never usually go down, and this police patrol stops me. Apparenly, I had been goin against traffic, so I get a 400 skr ticket (approx 53 $, which is a lot when you have no income until January next year). Fine, I broke the law, I'll pay, but how come you can park a police patrol with a car on a tiny ****ing side-street to catch "dangerous" bicyclists, but you can't have one patrolling the streets outside the cit center to prevent crimes, because "it will cost too much"?!

So, finally, after I get my ticket and leave, I go down to the bicycle store to pick up a new pair of front forks. The old ones got busted when I collided with some stone stairs last week, thanks to three dumbass american exchange students, who apparently don't understand the signs saying "road just for bicyclists" Long story short, when they were supposed to move, they didn't, and I was forced to do a twist-turn, smashing into the stairs.

Finally, when I get home, I get myself a peach, take a bite and WHAM, my prostetic teeth falls out. So I went over to the dentist today, and he said he's gonna have to re-attach the teeth to another tooth, because otherwise, it will just fall out again (its attached to the back of one of my front teeth via a small metal plate). And, to be able to attach it properly, I'm gonna have to go through some surgery (IE, they're gonna have to cut open my upper gums).

LIFE SUX!!!

Hmm, I wonder if anybody is actually gonna be arsed to read through this whole thing

Jamie FT
09-16-2004, 04:22 PM
yep because I care (have nothing better to do)

unlucky for you tho, and too make things even worse for you is that my advice is "There's always someone worse off than you" it's a cliche (ohhhhh that a cool word) and it's probably not true but i'm too tired at the moment to think of something better or funnier, so i'm probably gonna go to bed soon, goodnight all!

I listened to the title track on DD three times in a row today. \m/

Decaying, the ruins fall swift to the ground
The carnage is morbid and great
Mephitic deathstench of corpses abound
The earth meets an untimely fate
The horrific malignance, spreading its wings
Across the expanse of the sky
Contamination and all that it brings
The judges commit genocide

LordDargon
09-18-2004, 06:43 AM
OK so, if someone wanted to know what Thrash was, what 5 songs would you show them to give them a sampling of different styles of thrash and why?

1. Exodus - Bonded by Blood
2. Slayer - Chemical Warfare
3. Dark Angel - Darkness Descends
4. Flotsam and Jetsam - Metalshock
5. Kreator - When the Sun Burns Red

1. It's the thrash anthem! Thrash in it's purest form.
2. Best thrash song ever (except maybe for DD)
3. Brutal Thrash
3. Epic, more melodic thrash
4. Technical Thrash

And if they want more, cap it all of with Slayer - Raining Blood.

CREATED BY DESTRUCTION, NOW I SHALL REIGN IN BLOOD!
*insane lead that sounds like a cat having it's testicles slowly burst*

I'm learning Atheist - Unquestionable Presence at the moment, I've about halfway through it. It's got such a good bassline.

And the best riff off of Darkness Descends is definately Perish in Flames.

Top 5 eh...

Exodus - Bonded by Blood
Slayer - Angel of Death
Coroner - Suicide Command
Dark Angel - Perish in Flames (heh)
Anthrax - Caught in a Mosh

LordDargon
09-18-2004, 06:51 AM
Not neccessarily the top 5, just 5 diverse thrash songs that you think show the genre's depth, height, and breadth.

DimebagDarrell
09-18-2004, 06:52 AM
Suicidal Tendencies - Send me Your Money = Thrash/Punk/Hardcore crossover.

DimebagDarrell
09-18-2004, 07:02 AM
it would be very difficult to give my top 5 thrash songs but im sure it would contain what you would expect: slayer, testament, exodus, heathen, kreator, megadeth etc.

Not neccessarily the top 5, just 5 diverse thrash songs that you think show the genre's depth, height, and breadth.

By top 5 I meant that. I will explain though:

Exodus - Bonded by Blood - Just a classic anthem. Shows off the raw side of thrash.
Slayer - Angel of Death - Ditto. Shows off the pure ****ing speed of thrash.
Coroner - Suicide Command - one of the best technical thrash songs, ever.
Dark Angel - Perish in Flames - Another anthem. Similar to Slayer.
Anthrax - Caught in a Mosh - Another anthem. Shows the punky side of thrash.

There you go. Megadeth's Holy Wars should have got a mention, but I forgot about it.

Arise
09-18-2004, 08:02 AM
Anthrax - Time
Sepultura - Slaves Of Pain
Megadeth - Holy Wars
Flotsam & Jetsam - Dig Me Up To Bury Me
Exodus - War Is My Sheppard

Technical and Tempo/riff-changing Thrash all the way, baby!

Then again, I would have a hard time limiting it to just 5, even if I could only pick one from each band

Shady Ultima

Slayer - Angel of Death
Megadeth - Peace Sells
Anthrax - Skeletons in The Closet
Dark Angel - Darkness Descends
Slayer - Seasons in The Abyss

Reasons
1. So ****ing fast, angry and loud. Thrash at it's best
2. A lot different than most thrash, has a lot of a punk sound to it.
3. Once again a very punky thrash song
4. Fast, heavy, and so **** good. Another Thrash Classic
5. Much slower and more musical, but then goes into much quicker thrash.

RCA

Top 5 songs to get someone into thrash (in no order):

1. Slayer - Necrophobic
2. Artillery - Hunger and Greed
3. Metallica - Disposable Heroes
4. Kreator - Flag of Hate
5. Dark Angel - Perish In Flames

Reasons:

1. Music is fast, vocals are gruesome and fast, blast beating then a tempo change, under two minutes, wicked solos. Great thrash.

2. Raw sounding thrash, starting off with a quick tremolo picked solo. The riff is also very catchy.

3. A person just getting into thrash should also listen to a band that they probably already know of. Disposable Heroes is a long thrash song, with fast riffs, and then some tempo changes as well. Also, you cannot deny Metallica's influence on thrash, no matter where they are today with their music.

4. Fast, raw sound, harsh vocals, will get the listener banging their head against the wall. A good representation of Kreator's early career.

5. Catchy riffs throughout, very fast, and Gene Hoglan's drumming on this song made me nut my pants.

When I find a band to play thrash in, I want to play the intro of Hell Awaits that cuts straight into "Raining Blood" on the main riff that plays after the intro, then after Raining Blood, and then cut right into War Ensemble.

That would be sweet to do :D

Five songs for getting someone into Thrash eh?

1. Venom - Black Metal
2. WatchTower - Energetic Disassembly
3. Exodus - Toxic Waltz
4. Nuclear Assault - Critical Mass
5. Exhorder - The Law

1. Thrash in it's rawest form, plus it's my fave Venom song so it auto goes in there.
2. Silly tempo and time changes makes for excellent Thrash. Even though James McMaster sounds like a cheap Halford, WatchTower still slay.
3. Had to get an Exodus song in. I would have chosen Bonded By Blood, but The Toxic Waltz beats it by a small amount.
4. Along with Anthrax, Nuclear Assault have a distinct Punk sounding to them. Nothing beats a good bit of Thrash/Punk.
5. Proving that although Thrash died in the late 80's, a good band can emerge in the 90's and keep Thrash alive (for a while).

I would have done more of the typical songs and bands, but I think this sums up Thrash rather well. I wanted to add a Megadeth/Coroner/Anthrax song in aswell as plenty of other bands.....meh, I'm happy with my choices.

I didn't think the riffs sounded the same. They both use acoustics, which is pretty much the only similarity in my mind.

Something that sounds remarkably alike is:

Dark Angel's Darkness Descends (the song) the drumbeat is the one in One, by Metallica, which was used in Semtex Revolution, by Coroner.

Former EXODUS frontman Steve "Zetro" Souza has broken his silence with regards to his departure from the group. In the following statement — sent excusively to BLABBERMOUTH.NET — Zetro explains his reasons for leaving EXODUS on the eve of their South American tour and offers kind words for his former bandmates, who have recently announced their decision to carry on without him:

"To all concerned,

"I would like to say first of all, that leaving EXODUS was a very hard decision to make. I really wanted everything to work out in the long run. But lots of things came between us. Back when Paul [Baloff] died, I stepped in as a favor to the band, who had prior commitments and shows already booked. At that point in time, I was willing to play these shows, but was still reluctant to rejoin the band on a full-time basis. After these shows, I realized that I still really enjoyed performing and playing the live shows. I then decided to give EXODUS a second go at it. We recorded the album and it was a great record. I thought it was my best performance and work of my entire career.

"Now came the touring, and juggling a family, a full-time job, and EXODUS… It was never easy on me. In fact, while being on tour, I loved playing live on stage to our great fans around the world. But that was only a small part of being on the road, for it's a long day, every day out there. Too much time in between shows to think about my family back home. I have three wonderful kids and a great wife, which were miles away from me. And I still had many social and financial worries, with way too much time to think about everything while away from home during the downtime in between shows on the road.

"I am the sole provider for my family, before ever stepping back in full-time to the band. But I still had to work full-time at my job to support my family. And not to mention taking care of my family and the obligations of being a father.

"My family will always come first. And after my family, my job which pays all the bills was second on my list. And unfortunately my music had to become number three.

"Now understand that 15 years ago, when I had no family, EXODUS was my job, it was number one in my life. A lot has changed in my life since then, and rejoining, and now… And now I must say that these three things have run its course... I'm sorry, but I can only do the first two.

"With regards to the South American tour dates, and Mexico City date… I am very sorry I could not do these dates. Shows were getting cancelled up to the last minute. It reached a point where it was not financially feasible for me to attempt to do this trip. Four of the nine dates that I knew about got cancelled. And other shows I was uncertain about. Even though [this was the case], we were attempting to still do this tour anyway. So it was either stay home and work my regular job, which guarantees my families security, or do the tour dates and most likely come home with considerably less money than staying home and working. That was a lot of pressure for me to handle, and I had to make the right decision for my family and myself.

"I would like to sincerely apologize to the fans of Brazil and to Mexico City. I really wanted to fulfill my commitment. I love our fans down there with all my heart. But since so many shows were turning out not to happen, I just could not afford to do it. I am very sorry that the fans were disappointed, but so was I… very much so.

"With regards to EXODUS, I have nothing but good things to say about EXODUS. Gary, Rick, and Tom are, and remain, lifelong friends of mine. The comments that I heard about second-hand I know were from anger, being hurt, and deep disappointment. And I really understand that, and totally forgive them 100%. I'm sure they will go on, because Gary Holt is the greatest musician I have ever played with. And he needs to continue with EXODUS, because he is EXODUS. I wish them great success! But unfortunately at this time in my life, with much regret, it can't be with me. But who knows what can happen in the future...

"To all my fans who wanted this to go on, I am really sorry to all of you the most. I really tried hard. Hanging out with you, before, during, and after the shows all around the world was the reason I continued to do it. EXODUS will always be EXODUS. I want all of you to still support the band. And who knows I may see you again in the future...

"Sincerely to all,

Steve 'Zetro' Souza"

After what Gary said about him im suprised he didnt have a go back at him but in this he calls exodus his life long friends i respect Steve for this and at least he has been honest about his departure one thing i dont get is his first priority is his family second is what pays the bills and third is his music but shorly his music ispaying thebills

Yeah, early Napalm Death is pretty insane, but good. If anyone is a fan of Napalm Death I'd suggest listening to Terrorizer also, they were basically the American version of Napalm Death and their Guitarist ended up in the band strangly enough.
Yeah, Pete Sandoval plays for terrorizer... that says enough ;)

You talking out of your a$$ again? Universally regarded you say but have you got any proof that he is the almighty when it comes to thrash metal or are you just kissing a$$? Also he doesn't need to lord it over anyone cuz you do it for him.

You can't even spell "Slaytanic" properly, so shut the fu.ck up.

And JMet has 11 000+ files on slsk, the great majority being thrash. Although I was only joking calling him the "greatest storehouse of thrash knowledge", you can't deny that he probably knows more about it than anyone else in here.

That's cuz its not 'Slaytanic' its f'kin 'Slatanic' as in the f'kin 'Slatanic Wermacht'. It is the correct spelling so why don't you get 'Soundtrack to the Apocalypse', read the f'kin accompanying booklet, realize that you are wrong and shut the fu'ck up you f'kin stupid cunt!

It's not St Anger, it's more of a Black Album. It's their sell-out album, if you will. Better than the Black Album, but that isn't saying much...

Well, I wouldn't consider it their sellout album (that would be Youthanasia), but its defenitely not as good as any of their thrash albums. It took me quite some time to get used to, but it grows on ya.

It has some seriously asskicking songs on it, and some seriously ****ty songs as well. It's not great, but def worth a listen. Keep in mind, it ain't thrash though (in fact, its the only pre-TSHF non-thrash album worth paying money for).

I love your name pal, but Shadows Fall is more of a metalcore band, like Lamb of God. Here's three elements of thrash that define it for me:
1)Fast, intricate playing
2)Lyrics that are creepy at one point, but very well thought of (Megadeth is the best example, because Mustaine is in more than one way, a genius)
3)No deep vomiting sounding lyrics.

How good are you at guitar man?

I have a steady and precise rhythm, but my leads suck :upset:

I've had problems with songwriting lately and so my stuff hasn't been so great...other than that, I can try to nail a song down and hopefully get as accurately close to it. I know for a fact I might not be a perfect guitarist, but I am human, so I do the best I can to get close to what I try to attempt to sound like.

So far, I'm have the right timing and beat, but the soloing is a thing that isn't trying to catch on to me.

I do love complexity though :)
