Ok so Manowar wrote songs about being the best metal band ever, if doesn't really matter because in a way it adds to their feel of being kick assm if that makes sense. I don't think I'm explaining it right.

Maybe so, BUT... Manowar are gay and they make really really bad music. They're also assholes.

Manowar makes great music, alot of their stuff define heavy metal anthems. They may not appeal to your taste but childishly insulting them with words like gay and asshole won't get you very far.

I just finished watching the Live Kreation DVD I got for my b-day. man it was like forever!
I was like "Man when is this going to end?!?" (The history wasn't too exhilirating, but I liked it. The guy who was doing the narrarrations was just boring. Then the guys would talk in German and I was like "o.o;"
I was so lost. If they actually took the time to interview the memembers like how they do it for Behind the Music, then I would've been focused. The cool thing about the DVD is the concert films. South Korea had some pretty die hard Kreator fans. Even the chicks loved it! It was my first time actually seeing another country who I have never heard of liking a thrash metal band.
Oh yeah, and Eric Peterson was on the DVD too! haha that guy just cracks me up. He was doing his "Black Metal Vocals" when he was talking about Kreator. There was a chick with him but I was like "I wonder who she was"...
It was a cool DVD though. Kreator is up there on my list of my favorite thrash bands with Testament and Slayer. I like Metallica and Megadeth, but I like Kreator and Testament a lot more.

Cause arguing is more fun... All everyone ever does is taaaalk about what everyone likes! Dark Angel, Testament and Kreator can only be discussed so many times! Therefore, arguing is better...sometimes... provided someone doesn't get too out of hand and start to insult the people involved, but if they do that well, more power too them.
and yes, Manowar are assholes... they have total rock star prick attitudes. They even threatened to stop playing because of a few crowd surfers last time they played here. That's just soooo metal!!

Good Destruction eh? I'd go with Release From Agony as their best album, but pretty much all the earlier material is great.
JMetallica
08-31-2004, 03:03 AM
...and their last 3 albums aswell. :D
Release from Agony was probably the thrashiest and yeah, probably their best. Although, you can't go past their first EP, Sentance Of Death. I think that EP defines who and what destruction are: Total Desaster is as classic as you can get and Black Mass has one of the greatest riffs ever written (that intro is totally ownage!). It's pretty much all speed metal rather than thrash, but it is top class. I love it. I think it was re-released Infernal Overkill or Eternal Devastation, so you'd get your money worth. Yeah and The Antichrist is tops too.
Yeah, pretty much anything with Schmier on it. I haven't heard mid-ear Destruction but it is rumoured to be fairly average.

It's a pretty good album. Thrashy, lots of catchy riffs you can bang your head to. Not a classic, but if it's up for a decent price, i'd say pick it up.
And speaking of sodom, does anyone know if a new album is in the making? they havn't made a new album since M16... THREE years, which is pretty lazy by sodom standards...?

Mille, who returned home from England last Wednesday, has sent the following message :
" Dear girls and boys, back in Essen after a 6 week stay in England. Sneap starts mixing the songs today, and I can not wait hearing the final results. SPV are planing a worldwide release of the album for January 2005, followed by an extensive world tour, including massive sound and lights + a killer stage design in the style of the new cover artwork, wich will be made by austrian artist Jochim Luetke, check some of his work here: www.luetke.com . In case you have not seen the clips of the drum + vocal recordings yet, go here: www.andysneap.com.
Before the actual album, we will release a special price 4 track EP, including previously unreleased Live material and non album tracks.
Here is the new song titles :
ENEMY OF GOD
IMPOSSIBLE BRUTALITY
SUICIDE TERRORIST
MURDER FANTASIES
DYING RACE APOCALYPSE
ONE EVIL COMES- A MILION FOLLOW
DYSTOPIA
WORLD ANARCHY
VOICES
UNDER A BLACKENED SKY
WHEN DEATH TAKES IT´S DOMINION
THE ANCIENT PLAGUE
The style of the songs is pure brutal Thrash ! Tons of fast ****, sick solos, aggro riffing....

I'm not much into thrash either, but for easy access to lesser known bands, I believe you can download a few full albums by Heathen on www.heathenmetal.com. And there's a full album by Torture Squad, which is pretty good, on www.mit.edu/~levente/mp3s/. Other than that, all I really like so far is Kreator and what I've heard of Coroner.
Just to tide you over til the real thrash fans get here.

full albums, yay, sounds interesting now that I got rid of that virus! Thanks a lot! Ironically, I was about to mention Kreator and Coroner being my personal preferences! However, my all time favourite thrash (from the little experience I have) is *SADUS*. Kreator ala pleasure to kill and sadus seem to be more agressive and death-ish than the average thrash group though. Also coroner and sadus are technical which is another pro. I think this is why I like these three groups.

bnrmetal served me well when i was first seeking out bands, but he only has a limited number of bands. It's a good site if you want to check out a band's full catalogue or to find similar artists etc, but Metal-archives has waaaaay more information on underground bands and a lot of decent reviews. M-A is my preferred site, although, if it's down i head over to bnr.
EDIT: I entered myself into an air guitar contest at university, but don’t have a song chosen yet. Was wondering if anyone could mention a few good songs to play on the air guitar? :p

its too do with the original songwriter not letting them cover the song but if you censore a certain amount of words you can or something like that. i think lol

lol from what I read it was just because Dave put some swears in it and they didn't like it.

Nah the original version wasn't censored. The remastered one was censored because the owners of the song didn't appreciate Megadeths expletive-filled cover, so they'd only allow it to be put on the album if it were censored. I don't know why the first one wasn't censored, maybe the copyright ownership changed hands or something.

SLAYER Explain Myrtle Beach Cancellation
A representative at SLAYER's management company has sent the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET regarding the band's cancellation of their scheduled headlining appearance in Myrtle Beach, SC Wednesday night (Sept. 1):
"Tom Araya, SLAYER's bassist/vocalist, was treated and released from a Myrtle Beach, NC hospital on Wednesday after experiencing severe pain due to a kidney stone. SLAYER — who has had to cancel only one show in the band's twenty-one-year career — was unable to play the Myrtle Beach headlining 'Off-Fest' concert, but did play yesterday's [Sept. 2] Ozzfest show in Tampa. With the final Ozzfest show on Saturday in West Palm Beach cancelled due to Hurricane Frances, Araya will be able to go home early and be treated by his personal physician."

Of off the Roots album, everything 'cept the title track is absolute ****. Its ****ing nu-metal.
Check out the albums Schizofrenia, Beneath The Remains, Arise and Chaos AD. The last one isn't really Thrash, but it still has some seriously asskicking tunes on it.
My personal favorite is Beneath The Remains, IMO one of the best thrash albums ever made, along with RIP and MOP.
You should check out these songs:
Slaves Of Pain
Arise
Deas Embryonic Cell
Refuse/Resist
Inquisition Symphony
The Abyss
Inner Self
Mass Hypnosis
Territory
Also, therer's a few good ones by post-Chaos and post Max-Sepultura, but they're mostly covers. They did some cool **** with Devo's "Mongoloid", Sabbath's "Symptom Of The Universe", Jane's Addiction's "Mountain Song" and U2's "Bullet The Blue Sky".
JMetallica
09-05-2004, 05:45 AM
Yeah, Beneath The Remains is really, really, REALLY solid, heavy thrash with a whole garbage load of riffs. Pretty much everything that is good about the genre is found on that album; solos, riffs time changes vocals etc etc. I've thought of it as the best straight up thrash album ever made.
Schizophrenia is a little different, a bit rawer a little more varied yet pretty much just as good. I'd say those two are their best. Don't worry about chaos AD, it's just about as worthless as roots and arise is kind of bland once you have listened to it through a few times. It's not bad, just kind of weak in the shadow of BTR, which is awesome.
Yeah, check out morbid visions and bestial devastation too, some prototypical (if that's a word?) death/thrash and black/thrash. The EP is a little gem of a thing considering it was from 1985, kind of a hellhammer kind of affair... pretty necro sounding stuff.
Yeah, cheers.

Metallica only get recognition because they sold out. Any decent thrasher knows Metallica suck. Exodus have released one good album, the rest have been mediocre at best (BBB is a classic, though) and Testament just plain suck. Kreator should be recognised as one of Europe's finest ever metal bands, every release (well, except for Renewal > Endorama, they sucked) has been excellent. They really should have utilised Vetterli's talents better though, instead of releasing that semi-mallcore crap.

What I can't understand, though, is why people blame it for spawning today's ****ty music. If you create something good, and it just so happens to inspirie untalented assholesz, you can't really balme thecreation itself, just tghe dumbasses whos making its legacy ****

As for the guy who bashed Testament, I pity you.
I can see Metallica getting bashed, but Testament deserves some more respect, man. Testament and Exodus are good bands, and I don't get on why people slag them. I still like them, no matter what happens.
I was alright with the Metallica statement, because Metallica was the most popular and created a shadow over the more harder working thrash metal bands. I'm not saying Metallica is sucky, just that they casted a shadow over the rest of the better bands out there.
For saying Exodus's albums after Bonded By Blood being Mediocre, ok, I can live. So Fabulous Disaster wasn't the best to some, but I enjoyed it myself. I think it's just a good album, and yes, Tempo of the ****ed isn't the greatest but it's got some very good songs on there.
Now for the last part, Testament does not suck. Comparing them to getting the same success as Metallica, a lot of controversy and stuff went on after the Ritual.
-Alex Skolnick left to pursue a jazz career, since his metal interest was gone
-Louie Clemente left too, leaving the band to scout out original member Derrick Rameriez
When Low was produced, they might've downtuned, gotten James Murphy, and had John Tempesta as a temporary drummer for the sessions, but they stuck to making the music sound Metal. It was still metal, and yet, it had heaviness and solos. Testament began to go heavier until the Gathering, their last studio recording (not including First Strike Still Deadly and The Very Best of Testament).
That's my view on it and I just wanted to let my fellow thrashers know what I felt according to the statement.
I know I might've overreacted, I just thought that I should let my fellow thrashers know about what's going on with others, and how I see things.
Every good thrash band deserves the same amount of respect that Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax get, and should not being ignored.
Every Exodus is better than any Metallica album, except Master of Puppets and Kill 'Em All.Even Fabulos Disaster is awesome. And Testament,They were always awesome even on ritual, but after I think they got better.Just my thoughts.

I can see why people would wanna bash the black album for all the various reasons, IE, it killed the thrash scene, it wasn't "underground" enough, it was too lstener friendly etc etc. Personally, I think its a great album.
What I can't understand, though, is why people blame it for spawning today's ****ty music. If you create something good, and it just so happens to inspirie untalented assholesz, you can't really balme thecreation itself, just tghe dumbasses whos making its legacy ****
But what if you think the album itself sucks? Can you then blame it for spawning a whole **** load of crappy bands? I think you can. I don't like the black album, but master of puppets is a pretty decent album and i still rock out to it regularly. I think most people are just annoyed that Metallica got a whole lot of attention for averageness, opposed to other bands that created something special but got passed by.
I think Bonded By Blood and Tempo of the ****ed are better than Metallica albums [except RtL and KeA > TotD] and that (BbB) is one such album that should have got the recognition that Mop or RtL did.
I don't find testament to be stimulating at all. Probably one of the most mediocre thrash bands in exsistance. Yeah, they are just one of those bands that i have never got into, no matter how much i listen to them.

It's been a while, I haven't been on MF for a few months, because of the crappy level Rock & Metal plummeted to. It seems as though you guys have been quite busy. I can't be bothered missing the 50+ pages I've missed, so I'll ask now. Any of you into Death at all? 'Scream Bloody Gore' and 'Human' both rule..The music is thrash but with a but of death vocals. 'Deaththrash?'

Well, I've heard some Death. I like it a lot. However, I like the traditional methods of Thrash, but Death is a great band.

You can buy any whiplash album, as they have all been re-issued by some lable or another (or didn't go out of print in the first place) or atleast, that was the case a few years back. Pretty good stuff, check out their first three albums for straight up thrash/speed or Sit Stand Kneel Pray and Cult Of One for some Metal Church styled metal.

You don't find bands like Whiplash on Kazaa, dude, look on soulseek. I have one song of theirs, it's called Power Thrashing Death, or something, which I can send to you if you like.
Check out Game Over, which I've tried to download for about 2 weeks now, but can't find it. It's great though. Another '86 classic.

SLAYER: 'Still Reigning' DVD Packaging Preview Posted Online
Several photos from the packaging to the upcoming SLAYER DVD, "Still Reigning", have been posted online at the Rock N Roll Experience web site. Check them out at this location.http://www.angelfire.com/rock/e4/slayerblood.html
As previously reported, "Still Reigning" is scheduled for release on October 26. The disc will feature, for the first time ever, the original SLAYER lineup — Tom Araya (vocals, bass), guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, and drummer Dave Lombardo, who permanently rejoined the band in 2003 — performing an entire concert live. The cornerstone of the DVD will be the 1986, 28-minute classic album "Reign In Blood", performed in its entirety. During the final 45-seconds of the song "Raining Blood", "blood rains from the heavens," completely drenching the band, their instruments, and the stage. Hanneman unintentionally avoided the initial bloodbath as he stepped offstage for just a moment to handle a problem with his guitar, and missed the cue; but was deluged as he stepped back onstage.
"Still Reigning" was directed by Dean Karr (IRON MAIDEN's "Rock in Rio", the groundbreaking "Sweet Dreams" for MARILYN MANSON), and was shot on July 11 at the Civic Center in Augusta, ME. Ten cameras, including three hand-held mini-DVs, captured SLAYER throughout the day and evening, filming an abundance of footage and exclusive interviews shot backstage, on the band's tour bus, and live on stage. The DVD will have an approximate 75-minute running time and will retail for $14.98.

Holy **** ay. Hahaha, I was wondering if that was really holt posting, it sounds rather brutal, although I wonder if his whining vocals are a true reflection of his manner in real life? If it is, i say good ridance to bad rubbish whinging people must die. Although, it will be interesting to see Souza's side of the story and what the outcome will be when all the dust settles.
Anyway, who would you like to see in exodus?

Holt posted another statement apologizing... so it was most definitely him.
Arise, yes, yes you are the only 'thrasherhead' that thinks Slayer is just a pile of noise, Seasons aside... but then again, thrash is a fairly noisy genre. Chaotic/Messy thrash is the best kind of thrash.
