Dude Ranch was second album by the pop-punk trio Blink 182 from San Diego. For many this is regarded as the best album the band has produced and with due reason. For pop-punk this album has been almost as important as the holy grail of pop-punk albums Dookie by Green Day. An album filled with catchy hooks, melodies and well written lyrics it's not hard to see why this album thrust Blink 182 into popularity all over the world.

The album kicks off with one of the greatest Blink songs ever. Pathetic. A simple three chord song with a simple melody hook the strong part of this song is it's lyrics and vocals. 'Don't pull me down this is where I belong, I think i'm different but i'm the same and i'm wrong' Mark and Tom sing in the chorus. Pathetic is by no means the only good song on the album. Dammit the third song (You all know it) was the single which made Blink big and it's not hard to see why. Simple chord progression and awesome lyrics make it another stand out song. There's some immaturity in this album which will put some people off 'I'll just jack off in my room until noon' Mark sings on Waggy but for anyone willing to get past it it's just part of Blink 182s humour. Throughout the album the good songs keep coming. Waggy is a stand out song and Josie (Which has a kick *** music video) is one of the best girlfriend tribute songs ever written. Near the very end of the album is another gem called Lemmings. It comes together with some great lyrics and singing from Mark and a fantastic chorus. It's a song about relationships and taking yourself too seriously. Untitled is another great song. It starts slowly and cleanly with Tom singing and playing clean guitar and about a minute in BANG! Everything kicks in and the song triples it's speed and combined with some great lyrics from Tom makes for a great song.

There are a few not so great songs on the album. Boring doesn't seem to have anything that great to it but it's not a bad song just a mediocre song. The song Voyeur is almost an aquired taste. Some people don't like it as it's an immature song but really the weak points are very few and hardly hamper the album. The musicianship of Blink 182 has never been super and probably never will be so if your a metalhead/Opeth fan don't expect to like this album.

Overall a very strong album. Easily one of Blink 182s best and it's not hard to see why. Wether Mark is singing about Star Wars in a New Hope or Tom about watching a girl from a tree outside her window there's something special in this album which will keep you listning and keep you coming back. If you want to know if you will be listning to this album in 6 months time the answer is a definite yes.

Rating: 4.9/5 :thumb:

i still prefer enema of the state, but this is a rawer, less polished blink 182 which is appealing to some. i still like it though, 4/5.

dude, who cares if they're punk. i guess they're "pop-punk" if you wanna be technical. who cares if they sold out, enema and take off your pants were still really good albums and i generally don't like maintream music at all.

Awesome album, one of my favorites.

For pop-punk this album has been almost as important as the holy grail of pop-punk albums Dookie by Green Day.

Milo Goes To College by DESCENDENTS - The pop-punk album. Without the descendents, blink 182 would probably not be around today.

Ok my bad but without Dookie they probably wouldn't be around too as Green Day brought PP into the mainstream.

This is definately my favourite Blink album. And for me, illustrates a period at which Blink 182 were at their pop-punk best.
Highlights of the album for me are Josie, Apple Shampoo and of course Dammit.

Ditto. I still like this one though. Why can't they just stay like they used to be?

i only just got this album, and the songs are all really good, but the drumming is frequently out of time, and the singers are often off-key. I prefer the self-titled album, that has some really good music on it

id agree that this is the best blink album out there. they seemed to put more effort into the actual songs to make them sound different, as they didnt seem to on TOYPAJ. my only problem with this was the vocals, the production on them isnt as good as it could/should have been. although, i guess that kinda adds something to it.
anyway, good review.

Dude Ranch is the best Blink album apart from Mark Tom and Travis Show. Dude Ranch is one of the best albums i hav. Blink r an amzin band (an iv seen em live) an this is a truely amazing album by them. (The Descendents rule)

blink's best album, but closly followed by the new album, and the others to be honest, apart from enema of the state. But since i'm a big fan, even if they did release something ****, i'd probably learn to like it, but that ain't gonna happen.

i liked both enema of the state and duderanch but they got a little old for me so i kinda changed my view and listened to alexis on fire

Without the descendents, blink 182 would probably not be around today.

Tom was influenced by the descendents and when he first got a guitar he played descendents covers. blink would probably be around, but different. You never know. It's the butterfly effect.

Great review.

But Blink 182, and pop-punk in general, just don't seem worth the time to me. I mean, I don't mind simple stuff, but when I--who have been playing guitar for about two months--can go up to my room a and play a song, it seems so... wrong. Either way I can't stand blink 182, but good review.

And I guess that if you like pop-punk and Blink 182, this has to be their best album.

I think if Travis did this record who knows how much bigger this album would've been. Travis is just a totally better drummer by far and you can tell. Listen to blink live when Scott was drumming...crap then listen to them now awsome and great! This record ties my favorite with Buddha! Nice Review

Personally I'd settle to call Blink-182 (in their earlier, and much better, dude ranch days) straight up punk. Call me crazy but it certainly seemed that way before Enema Of The State came out.

i like their new style more though, but this is a nice album. 4/5. 8)

Very good Blink album! But mang, Tom's voice sounds strange. lol Those were the good ol' Blink days. And it's easy to see that they have come such a long way since then.

Blink 182 has done nothing pretty good after this cd and I say this one rocks ,I listen to it at least 1 time every months because it's simple ,fast ,well very good pop punk. It's a most if you start playing guitar and want to play some blink 182 songs ,get this album they are all easy to play and fun like dammit, boring, pathetic, i'm sorry, voyeur, dick lips, ENTHUSED(a so great intro :amaze: ), well all of them ...
