New Found Glory are the pop-punk band which much like Blink 182 is a band you either love or hate with passion. They are a band that write poppy songs with a harder edge. The band formed in Florida in Coral Springs in the summer of 1997. The bands first release was called Nothing Gold Can Stay released in 1999 featuring the hit single Hit Or Miss. The band released 'From the screen to your stereo' E.p next which consisted of covers from movies before releasing their self titled album in 2000. Sticks and Stones is the latest release and if you haven't liked anything NFG did in the past you won't like this album.

Understatement - Catchy chorus.. Check, Poppy hooks.. Check, Energetic song.. Check all the elements which make NFG the band they are feature on this song. It's a great way to open to the album and bursts full with energy. One of the best songs on the cd.

My Friends Over You - The first single off Sticks and Stones. Everything is here. The catchy chorus, the hooky verse and the lyrics. Now if your a teen and you've been in love you really can relate to any NFG song and here it's no different.

Sonny - A tribute to the singers dead grandpa. The song is NFG at their most emotional on the album and you can't help but love it. It's got two great verses and the chorus connects them perfectely.

Something I call Personality - Probably the worst song on the album. It's fast paced but after Sonny it doesn't really work. The chorus is pretty boring 'Come on and sort things out on your own time X4' and the verses don't really have much melody to make them intresting. IMO a pretty bad song.

Head On Collision - The second single off Sticks and Stones. It's almost a bit like Sonny. A more emotional song and like all NFG you can easily connect lyrically. It's a good song and everything works on this song. Redeems the former song.

It's Been A Summer - NFG at probably their poppiest. A decent song but nothing outstanding about it. It's more of the same really.

Forget My Name - The song has a good intro (Jordan singing with a clean guitar going) before it kicks into the verse. The chorus is catchy, lyrics easily relatable and all the right hooks are here.

Never Give Up - This song sounds a bit more like NFGs older work and it's a welcome relief. This song is different to anything else on the record and up's to the drummer for keeping up the pace in this song without stuffing up.

The Great Houdini - Another poppy song. NFG manages to really pull off a lyric moment here 'I went to your house but you weren't home, i'm sure you convienetly shut off your phone' it's nothing exceptional but it works very well in the song and will be stuck in your head for ages. The song is another good song. Catchy chorus, good verses and awesome bridge.

Singled Out - Here's another of the albums best songs. Lyrically it's the best and one I can relate to. It talks about people who double cross and use others. Everything works on this song. It has one of the best chorus's on the album and the bridge is awesome.

Belated - By NFG this is a bit of a slow song. It's an allright song but nothing exceptional about it and it doesn't really stand out. The chorus is nothing special and it suffers a bit from having a good song before it.

The Story So Far - A good ending to the album. One of the albums best songs and really it sums the album up. It's got everything that make NFG the band they are. The catchy chorus, poppy hooks and the good verses. The lyrics here are anything that anyone who's been dumped can relate to.

Now if your going to listen to this album here's a few things. If you don't like Jordans voice your going to hate some songs on this album. There's some songs where it gets a bit whiney and nassily and anyone that doesn't like Jordans voice will want to stay away from this album. If you don't like Pop-Punk of your pop-punk on the poppy side chances are you wont like this album but if you want something catchy, poppy and light-hearted this is the right album. It's got plenty of strong songs with only a few bland songs. For any NFG a must buy and alot of Pop-Punk fans will like this album to. It's an overall improvement on the last album and one worth checking out. The only negative point to this album is that each of the songs have a lifespan and once you've listened to them for so long that's it. You may come back to the album every now and then but it wont be the same so you won't be listning to this in three months.

Rating: 3.5/5 :)

I don't know how to say this, but... hybridofsound: you have the worst taste in music for someone as literate as you are. I don't know how you do it, but you put other fans of NFG and Linkin Park (read your reviews of their albums) to shame with you sheer ability to say things without sounding like an idiot. I guess it's just musical taste after all, because I'm so used to fans of my least favorite bands being idiots that I thought all of them were dumb. Thanks for the enlightenment, and the great reviews!

Haha I guess that's an almost warped compliment. I do like alot of mainstream music I will admit that but I also like alot of non-mainstream things. I just haven't gotten around to reviewing my entire record collection yet and also the largest problem for me is living in New Zealand it's harder to get good albums (For instance try ordering Opeth, Fugazi or even a semi-mainstream band like Taking Back Sunday) you can't buy albums like that here and if you want them you have to order them and that can easily come to $40NZ and for that price I can buy two mainstream albums so that's mainly why most of my reviews would be of more mainstream music but thanks for the compliment anyway. :)

^ Well that's okay. I'm just glad someone's reviewing these bands in a less-than-hostile fashion. It's nice to get a perspective on groups I would usually avoid from someone who can spell it like it is.

Good review. When I listened to the album I thought their sound was pretty generic or your normal pop-punk band. I agree with what you said about a hard time getting your hands on some artists' albums. I live in the Philippines and it would be a divine intervention to come across a NoFX album. And what's considered mainstream in other countries (US for example) is not really mainstream here.

yeah yeah yeah so i have never heard anything on this album im just bored

i find new found glory anoying i agree with you when you say you either love them or hate them with a passion because they really do suck anyway what i have heard and seen of them i dont like . a lot of it is their appearance im fine when they say their not punk( i dont like much punk) but if they arent they should stop drssing like it im tired of the punk fasion and way of life and how their so down and pesemistic all the time(im kind of off the subject of new found glory but deal with it) how they claim to have no friends and ppl think their freaks well where i am from the punk kids are in huge groupes looks to me like they have friends and when someone says "no one understands me" i think they need to get hit by a bus on their way home that day because no one is trying to understand them and no one cares about them accept for their family ....maybe.

anywho i know that had nothing to do with the cd and my whole point of posting is to be irritating and onoying whether i was or not..

I agree with everything you said, but Id give the album 4.5.

Nearly flawless, except for of course the point that HOS pointed out that it does have a short life span.

hybrid of sound you totally got the concept of sticks and stones i mean i couldn't even done it better my self Sticks and stone was awesome. Then they made Catalyst and got the vibe confused because the didn't sing about what they used to but i still think its cool. Except the Something I call personality song . That song is awesome and it kicks a** and i Think it was put after Sonny to lighten the mood. I mean you can't just have a few fast paced sonfs and go slow for the rest. Other than that ur fine.

Well done on the review Hybrid. :thumb:

I'll be honest and say I hate Jordan's singing (yet I can tolerate Tim Armstrong's!). From what I have heard on the album, the songs aren't that bad. Nice review.

Eh, this album was ok. The vocals can't get annoying but the songs are extremely catchy, fast and energetic.

I didn't mind "My Friends Over You". But then, I didn't like it ebough to check the band out more. I know it's uncool on mx, but sometimes I just can't help liking mainstream pop-punk. No Good Charlotte or Simple Plan for me though. I only really like a couple of blink 182 songs.

new found glory. i cant help but shake my head. a band with such potential, releasing such crap. i have sticks and stones, but the first two tracks are the only ones on the cd worth the dirt off my boot. honestly these guys shouldve have quit while they were ahead, with from the screen to your stereo. that had some good covers on it. but i was more than a little disappointed with this one, and their latest catalyst. theyre just so pussy and whiney now. who gives a crap. 1.5 out of 5, if youre a NFG fan. ps clown love to the fat bass player whos not afraid to take off his shirt.
