I bought this about three years ago and didn't really give it much listening. I'm less into metal now but when I put it in my stereo a few weeks back I was very impressed. I hear it's a lot different from their last two album but I haven't heard them. It's quite similar in style to Around the Fur.

The album is dominated mainly by Stef's distinctive guitar sound and Chino's voice (and the distorted sound on it). There's not much bass to hear on the record. The drums are solid and there's are some good beats and fills thrown in. The album doesn't really change in style but it doesn't get boring either. The production is really raw and has a live sound to it.

My favourite tracks are:

Nosebleed - Great song, pretty fast for a nu-metal band. I love the end section

7 Words - Starts quietly, and builds up to a pretty frantic chorus. The bridge is the best part of this album.

Bored - A typical Deftones song, quite slow and heavy. Chino's screams later in the song are very cool indeedy.

Root - Awesome riff in this song. The bridge sounds Egyptian which is quite weird. Chino's voice goes really high as well. :D

If you don't have Around The Fur, you should definately get that. It's the best nu-metal album ever. If you have that, then this comes a pretty close second.

'One weak' is my favourite track on this album, it is probably the best nu-metal song ever.

It's my least fav Deftones album. All their albums are fantastic though so that doesn't say much. Decent review, could of had alot more detail. 7 Words is my fav song from it.

I'm pretty sure that Terry Date had the band record most of this stuff live for that "raw" sound.

Live? I hardly believe any of it sounds live.

Maybe I'll have to review this. the 'tones have been a favorite of mine for years.

Don't believe me? Read this: http://search.netscape.com/ns/boomframe.jsp?query=deftones+Adrenaline+was+record ed+live&page=1&offset=0&result_url=redir%3Fsrc%3Dwebsearch%26requestId%3D5 e51c0c36d66c5be%26clickedItemRank%3D9%26userQuery% 3Ddeftones%2BAdrenaline%2Bwas%2Brecorded%2Blive%26 clickedItemURN%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Flaunch.yahoo.c om%252Fartist%252FartistFocus.asp%253FartistID%253 D1006978%26invocationType%3D-%26fromPage%3DNSCPResults%26amp%3BampTest%3D1&remove_url=http%3A%2F%2Flaunch.yahoo.com%2Fartist% 2FartistFocus.asp%253FartistID%253D1006978

The link's not working, so:
"After four years of juggling day jobs and leading a demo-to-demo existence in between consistent gigging, the Deftones finally landed a deal with Maverick and with the production assistance of Terry Date (Soundgarden, Pantera, White Zombie)--who became a regular producer for the band--they recorded their full-length debut, Adrenaline, in 1995. Much of the record was recorded live, capturing the rawness of Moreno's cryptic trademark screams/whispers and the band's bracing riffs of fury."

Just wanted to point that out.

I think it means that it was recorded with live takes, not at live gigs.
