Genre: Indie-Rock/Experimental // Label: Domino Recording Co Ltd

Background:

For a decade now, Brooklyn-based experimental rockers Dirty Projectors have been providing an unconventional listening experience. Their penchant for throwing odd time signatures, thumping bass lines, mesmerizing vocals, and electronic elements into a blender and seeing what comes out the other side has yielded surprisingly consistent results – especially considering their brazen exploration of any and all things weird.  Bitte Orca became one of their most well received albums in 2009. After developing some pop sensibilities to match their burgeoning experimental energy with 2012’s Swing Lo Magellan, their music became the perfect blend of what was interesting and what made sense. The band’s self-titled record not only marks another step in that direction, but it also makes a hefty push towards the artsy offerings of peers like Justin Vernon. In what will likely be a divisive album for long time fans, Dirty Projectors brings even more boundary-testing change.

Listen to Dirty Projectors’ entire record, which has been released 3 days early, courtesy of Spotify.

Or, if you’re not that hungry yet for a Dirty Projectors album, then try the album’s lead single “Keep Your Name”:

Such a huge week. I won't even get to check out everything I want to in the next 7 days. I already streamed the new Clap Your Hands while creating this which was a solid indie-pop album. Dirty Projectors I've been focusing on and hope to have a review up either tomorrow or this weekend.

Too many worthwhile releases overall for me to even list though.

Much less busy week than last week, only album I plan to check is Old 97s, which is nice since I still haven't gotten to everything from last week.

Great week

02.21.17
.. is that the right artwork for The Feelies' newest? looks exactly like the debut

SowingSeason
02.21.17
Fixed, thanks JOTS! I threw this together very quickly.

JohnnyOnTheSpot
02.21.17
wew thank god, don't think your credibility could handle another screw-up like that unchecked

SowingSeason
02.21.17
I know. mx said I'm on thin ice after lobbying excessively to make you staff; then that Bon Iver review didn't help either.

SowingSeason
02.21.17
Also my credibility might well go out the window with this Dirty Projectors review. It's just the crazy-ass weird indie shit that I fall all over myself while listening/reviewing. Could make that 22, A Million review look like a lesson in objectivity.

Loads this week I'll check...predictions: Pissed Jeans [4], Dirty Projectors [4], Feelies [3], King Gizzard [3], CYHSY [3]. Might check the Xiu Xiu and err, 'Zombie Motors' maybe lol

Sowing I'll let you off with Dirty Projectors, top band

I heard a song from the Dirty Projectors and it sounded pretty shitty to me

SowingSeason
02.21.17
the whole album is out 3 days early so you can make a more informed [better] decision boney

up in hudson was probably what you heard and yeah that's one of the more okay-ish tracks on there

SowingSeason
02.21.17
thx doof, bitte orca and swing lo are both great

theBoneyKing
02.21.17
Yeah I think that was it Sowing.

SowingSeason
02.21.17
you def won't like it as much as me regardless but I'd still listen. spotify link is above.

im actually semi-familiar with the old 97s, they're decent. probably won't crack my top 7 albums to listen to this week though so you'll have to tell me if it's worthwhile.

Danred97
02.22.17
I heard a couple tracks off of the Death Therapy album, pretty tight from what I've heard. I'll be checking that one out.

SowingSeason
02.22.17
Looks like several of these lost their art; I'll fix tomorrow when I'm back at my desktop.

Arcade
02.22.17
can confirm new Dirty Projectors is very good btw

ScuroFantasma
02.22.17
Why are a lot of places saying the Steel Panther album doesn't come out til 24 March?

ScuroFantasma
02.22.17
Their website and FB page both say March 24 too

SowingSeason
02.22.17
Oops. I pretty much just go by my selected source for each genre so when they're wrong I'm wrong. Will take that out.

ScuroFantasma
02.22.17
It's cool I was genuinely curious cuz Blabbermouth were reporting that it came out on Feb 24 too, and if you googled the album the first source it pulled from claimed it was coming out this week too. Lots of conflicting info, I was worried I'd have to order the album asap.

Dewinged
02.24.17
I am digging that King Woman album

MarsKid
02.24.17
No Persefone listed, ok

henryChinaski
02.25.17
