I haven’t been the nicest to Dallas Green over the years but I’ll be the first to tell you that he does one hell of a job on Canada’s first hip-hop anthem of the new year.

That’s right, I said hip-hop.

Last week Consequence of Sound premiered “Live Forever”, one half of Two Songs, the upcoming charity 12” by Shad and Dallas Green. Shad, for those of you who don’t know, is absolutely fucking awesome. Last year he put out TSOL, his third entry into the imaginary Canadian Hip-Hop Hall of Fame. Like Shad, TSOL is also fucking awesome.

Do you know what else is fucking awesome? “Live Forever”, which you can hear below.

If you like what you hear and feel like supporting the Skate4Cancer you can pre-order Two Songs at MapleMusic. Act fast, though, because with a limited pressing of just 556 copies I imagine City & Colour fan girls will eat this up faster than any fat joke I can make.

If you don't dig it at first just let it ride. I'm gonna start posting a bunch more Track of the Days over the coming weeks. They won't all be this new, though.

Curse.

I can't wait to check this out later

*GASP*... Tyler Munro mentioning Dallas Green without saying some variation of "Autotuneautotuneautotune"?

That's what we like to call "the first step". Congrats, sir.

Tyler I've never understood you're beef with dallas.

Is he not hip enough ?

The long and short of it is he can't sing live. I've seen him perform dozens of times in different capacities--with Alexisonfire, City & Colour and pre-C&C solo--and he's almost never been able to sing on key. He just can't seem to sing live, at all. I'm also not a fan of City & Colour.

That being said, I like Alexisonfire, and that includes a lot of his vocals with them, and he sounds fine (even pretty good at times) on all recordings of him. I don't doubt is actual ability to sing, just his consistency. But it's not like I've got an actual problem or beef with him. I used to get real aggravated by his success when I was younger, but chalk that up to me being young and a contrarian.

I've also found him to be an incredibly awesome dude, so there's that.

I came in thinking Dallas would be excellent like he always is: I was disappointed.

I came in thinking this rapper I'd never heard of would suck: I was surprised. Must check out his albums.

Davey Boy, his song called "The Old Prince Still Lives at Home" is one of the funniest/most awesome songs ever. Make that a priority.

Tyler

He should have won the Polaris, but ultimately the Polaris is a scam anyways so who cares. It does suck that his last two albums have both been nominated and lost though.

This is pretty cool.

Shad was much better before TSOL, which has some cool beats (even though they sound kind of low budget at times to me) but his rhymes are pretty tired/cliche imo

I'm pretty interested in this though, sounds cool

tbh i liked TSOL more than The Old Prince

I'm not even a huge fan of that album, but I do dig it. I don't think Shad's ever really done much that's really stuck with me for more than a week or two

Dallas has been fantastic live everytime I've seen him.

Shad's someone you've really got to see live if you get the chance. He's ridiculously creative live. The first time I saw him, his DJ was repeatedly switching up the beats to his tracks to classic ones and Shad was changing up his phrasing on the fly to match the different tempos. He throws out classic verses at times (threw out the Fugees "Mona Lisa" the first time I saw him). The second time I saw him he spent a ton of time interacting with the crowd by jumping into it. His band is really talented, too, even when it's just his bassist and his DJ there's a ton of energy.

Oddly enough, the last time I saw him George from AOF was in the pit watching.

I saw him at a local Warped Tour stop a couple years ago. It was just me and some other dude watching him. I felt bad for him.

Tyler

Must have been awkward.

Athom

he still rocked it. some huge trendy band was playing on the main stage at the time and POS played across the fairgrounds like 30 minutes before hand so i guess people got their hip hop quota with POS. both were great.

This is surprisingly good. I'm surprised Dallas Green hasn't tried to cross over more than this. He'd clearly have a ton of success.
