Flotsam and Jetsam have been around for nearly thirty years and have never truly received the attention that they deserve. Some of the blame could be placed on bad timing (Cuatro) or bad productions (When the Storm Comes Down and Dream of Death) – and their unwavering dedication to flying the thrash flag through the nineties probably had something to do with it too – but it doesn’t fully explain how this band has remained in the shadows all of these years. The real shame is that Flotsam and Jetsam seem to be firing on all cylinders again and have released their best album since 1992, and a majority of metal fans probably won’t ever realize it.

The Cold was released on September 14th through Driven Music Group and was produced by Ralph Patlan at Phase 4 Studios in Phoenix, Arizona. Cover art was done by Travis Smith (Iced Earth, Psychotic Waltz).

Album currently on sell for $7.99 through Amazon Digital.

This is a really good album. I had lost faith in them after Drift. There's something about "Better Off Dead" that makes me keep listening to it over and over. Love that song.

I wasn't expecting much and was very surprised. I'm glad to see them get out of their rut.

Anyway songs are cool.

These guys were doing stuff like this before Nevermore were even formed.

aww you sweet talker you.

Anyway, I liked the songs so I'm getting the album soon. It does sound a bit like Nevermore so I'll be giving the other albums a chance as well.

The first two are old school thrash. The following three are streamlined metal (with thrash influences) and then the rest go back to a thrashy sound. My personal favorite is Cuatro. Look up the song "Never to Reveal" by these guys on Youtube.

Haven't listened enough to Nevermore to able to get into them but yes this sounds kinda like them. I liked the first song the most.

Hey Willie, regarding their first album, is Newsted's talent on bass to heard?

Willie
09.20.10
Yes. His bass playing on the debut is totally audible and definitely drives the music. It's also really damn good and shows how much wasted potential Jason had in Metallica.

^ That's what I was thinking..I think I need to hear that album then.

These guys have a sound to be sure. Anyone know if they've had any influence on Protest the Hero. Both vocalists phrase they're cleans similarly to my ears.
Good to hear them sounding a bit more current.
