Two Gallants was formed by Adam Stephens and Tyson Vogel in San Francisco in 2002. The two had been playing music together for years,but they had started gigging together under the Two Gallants name in early 2002, booking shows all over the bay without the help of a bookingagent or website. They released their debut album The Throes in 2004 on Alive Records afterwards finally getting a booking agent. Aftera few more years of touring, they signed to Coner Obrest's Saddle Creek record label in 2005. They released their first record on SaddleCreek, What the Toll Tells in Feburary of 2006.
