The Tea Party was formed in 1990 after a marathon jam at session at the Cherry Beach Rehearsal Studios. Their music has been described as hard rock with influences from blues, progressive rock, Indian and Middle Eastern music. Well known in Canada, Australia and Germany, the band is generally unknown in mainstream American music. In 2005, the group disbanded due to creative differences, with Jeff Martin abruptly announcing that he would be moving to Scotland to pursue a solo career. Stuart Chatwood later announced that he and Jeff Burrows were under the impression that the band was merely taking an extended break.
