The Distillers takes the cake.
Headed by a dark, sexy, and not to mention talented, Brody Dalle (Armstrong), this band contains abstract, poetic, and biting lyrics, excellent bass and drum playing and again, a vocalist with a both angry growl and a melodic purr to her chords. Forming in the late 90's, the band has changed it's members around a couple times, but the current run-up seems secure (ignoring the vague rumors Brody's leaving to take care of her new baby at home). With dysfunctional, yet certainly deep and emotionaly appealing songs, the band has picked up a lot of fans since their 2000 self-titled release. "Coral Fang" (2003) takes a more controlled approach to the music than that faster paced and more unorganized sound to that 2000 release, though both are equally applaud-worthy.
