Susanne Sundfør is a Norwegian singer/songwriter who was born and grew up in Haugesund. She currently lives and studies in Bergen. Shehas played several gigs in Oslo and Haugesund as well as a concert in 2005 with Tom McRae. In february 2006 she was featured in theNorwegian music business festival by:Larm in Tromsø.

Susanne Sundfør masters both jazz and classical music, and she has developed her own musical style with elements from both thesegenres. She is often compared to songwriters such as Joni Mitchell and Carole King. Sundfør is also inspired by Jeff Buckley, Radka Toneff,Ane Brun and Thomas Dybdahl.

Her lyrics often deals with personal subject matters such as “Africa, America”, “Time out, time”, “It’s all gone tomorrow” or contemporaryissues (“Opium”).

In march 2007 she released her self-titled album “Susanne Sundfør”, which received great critics.

She won the price for “best female vocalist” at Spellemannsprisen 2008, and was nominated in the category “year’s newcomer” aswell. As areaction from her controversial short speech about her opinion of "the best FEMALE vocalist"-category, an engaging debate ensued.

Sundfør’s second album is entitled “The Brothel”, and was be released on March 15, 2010. The first single, which also is the titletrack, hadpremiere on Norwegian radios on January 28th 2010. The single received excellent reviews from several newspapers in Norway, giving it6/6.

The album was a big departure from the singer/songwriter-piano girl label she had gotten after her first album. With the help of Jaga Jazzist'sLars Horntvedt she created a pop album acclaimed for its grandiose, yet macabre presentation, dense soundscapes and unpredictablestructures. The album sold beyond exceptions and was one of the most bought Norwegian albums at the end of 2010. It also introducedSusanne Sundfør to an international audience, albeit small in comparison to the attention received in her home country. « hide
