Originating from Australia's East Coast town, Budgewoi, power-pop-punk infused act, Short Stack was little known, other than in local music circles. After appearing as a supporting act for international sensations Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, and the closer to home counterpart Kisschasy among others, the band became more widely known. During the 2005-2007 period, the group came close (twice) to winning Sydney's "Youthrock" competition. Shaun Diviney, lead guitarist and vocalist states on their website, “We thought we could do it. We thought we were the best band in the world… and we weren’t”. I wasn’t to be until music channels MTV, Channel V and Video Hits became more aware of their idiom, through their self proclaimed running-autobiographical YouTube channel -- entitled Short Stack TV. Each went onto broadcast an exclusive episode of one of the band's circus day runs. From here, their debut album "Stack is the New Black" was under preproduction for a scheduled Australian release during mid August of 2009.
Its teaser preludes "Sway Sway Baby", "Shimmy a Go Go" and "Princess" all provided the debut with something to attain towards for its close followers. It's been by utilising the combined force of various routes on the information superhighway (SMS/MySpace/YouTube), and playing shows at shopping districts, that Short Stack's electro-power pop naturally has generated much enthusiasm from the country's younger generations, reveling for their next own Silverchair, just only not as troubled, and instead more enthused about life. While it's not completely certain as to whether they'll merely be a storm in a hot chocolate (tea just isn't sweet enough here), or not, for now Short Stack, on their quest to become the new black, will either fail miserably, or succeed with dignity. « hide |
