Sand were a German krautrock/psychedelic band originally formed in Lower Saxony in 1969 but relocated to Berlin 1972. During their existence they only released one official studio album, 1974's Golem. With trippy music that combined synthesizers, guitars and folk music, it was recorded and produced by Klaus Schulze and Manfred Schunke at the Delta-Acustic Studio with the intent of demonstrating the capabilities of the "Kunstkopf" dummy head microphone technology (see also Code III). Sand were a German krautrock/psychedelic band originally formed in Lower Saxony in 1969 but relocated to Berlin 1972. During their existence they only released one official studio album, 1974's Golem. With trippy music that combined synthesizers, guitars and folk music, it was recorded and produced by Klaus Schulze and Manfred Schunke at the Delta-Acustic Studio with the intent of demonstrating the capabilities of the "Kunstkopf" dummy head microphone technology (see also Code III). Sand unfortunately remained obscure for years to come, although a niche following appeared thanks to David Tibet and Steven Stapleton of Current 93. The two found inspiration in the band, covering them and eventually in 1996 producing a CD compilation featuring previously unreleased recordings of Sand material.
