Guy Picciotto's energy as the singer in the band, which is still experienced in seeing his performances in FUGAZI, catapulted the listener deep through the tumultuous vortex of the music to some other place.
Their self-titled album was recorded in February 1985, and the single in January 1986. Included on the CD and cassette (Dischord 16) is the extra track 'Other Way Around', which was recorded during the same session as the album, but couldn't be fit onto the vinyl. After RITES OF SPRING broke up, Guy, Brendan, and Eddie formed ONE LAST WISH. Eddie moved over to bass and Michael Hampton joined palying guitar. When ONE LAST WISH broke up in January 1987, RITES OF SPRING reformed under the name HAPPY GO LICKY. They played seven gigs before breaking up in January 1988. Prior to the split, Brendan had begun playing with Ian MacKaye and Joe Lally in what has become FUGAZI. FUGAZI played their first gig in September 1987 with Brendan, and Guy joined them in the beginning of 1988 after HAPPY GO LICKY had quit. Mike Fellows formed LITTLE BABY with some of the SOULSIDE guys (Alexis Fleisig, Scott McCloud and Johnny Temple). Mike also later performed in one of the incarnations of ROYAL TRUX.
