Formed in Los Angeles, California in early 2000 Otep approaches metal in a unique style alternating from grindcore riffs to spoken
word poems. They are known for their aggressive live performances with vocalist Otep Shamaya mainly being the highlight of
the shows. They are also known for the distinction of being an iconic band to lesbians out there due to Shamaya's sexual
preference. Their songs are angry and deal with hate to society and the government and have now disbanded following the
release of 2013's Hydra.
