Detroit has quite an extensive history with techno and house music. The various waves of talent to bust out of the city have produced such legendary artists as Derrick May, Carl Craig, Mad Mike, Jeff Mills, Drexciya and many more than could be listed here. Detroit dance music works on the mind and the body in equal measure; this requires true artistry to pull on the heartstrings while moving the ass in rhythm. One of the more recent additions to this great legacy is the deep house artist Alex O. Smith aka Omar-S.

One of the more recent additions to this great legacy is the deep house artist Alex O. Smith aka Omar-S.

Despite releasing most of his material on his own FXHE Records imprint, his distinctive sound has catapulted him to the forefront of house and techno music. Using old-school synths and drum machines to elicit a funky mechanical feel, Omar-S has managed to show us the future by reaching back to the past. « hide
