An avant-garde composer based in Los Angeles, Morton Subotnick is notable for having made Silver Apples of the Moon, the
first electronic album to be commissioned by a major record label. Ironically, it was released the same year as the first
electronic pop album, the self-titled album by a New York band also named Silver Apples - both had taken the name from a
poem by Yeats.
