Morphine were a three piece band from Boston in the early 90s. Led by vocalist/2-string slide bassist Mark Sandman with
saxophonist Dana Colley and drummer Billy Conway, the band would play their unique blend of rock, jazz, and blues for 5
full length LPs (one released after the bands fallout), a collection of b-sides, and a live album. The band were together
until July 1999 when at a festival in Rome and performing live, Sandman collapsed live on stage and died of a heart
attack. Since then Colley and Conway have gone on tour with various musicians as Orchesta Morphine who play
Morphine songs as a tribute. Since his death, the Mark Sandman Music Education Foundation has been established to
help music teachers in Massachusetts.
