Morgoth was a German metal band formed in Meschede in 1985 going through a number of name changes (Cadaverous Smell, Exterminator, Minas Morgul) before settling on Morgoth in 1987. They were among the first bands to be signed by Century Media Records and enjoyed moderate success touring with prominent bands such as Pestilence, Demolition Hammer, Obituary and more. Morgoth's early material drew very heavy influence from the Florida school of death metal, to the point where some referred to them as the European version of Chuck Schuldiner's Death. The mid 90s would see the group incorporate industrial and even alternative elements, with influences cited including Ministry, Godflesh and Killing Joke among others. The albums released in this period were met with mixed reception from fans however, which coupled with internal problems led to the band's break-up in 1998. Morgoth would reunite in 2010, touring and releasing new material before finally splitting up for good in 2020. « hide
