Manu Dibango

A saxophonist who became arguably Cameroon's most successful musician ever, Manu Dibango became the international face of the African dance genre Makossa when his single "Soul Makossa" became a surprise US hit in the early 1970s. The song became a major influence on the nascent disco scene, and has now been canonized by some as the first song in the genre.
