Maki Goto is a Japanese pop artist that first surfaced to super stardom 1999 as a third generation idol in the legendary Japanese pop girl group, Morning Musume. Maki's first single with the group, "Love Machine", was a humongous smash hit in the Japanese mainstream, not only certifying Morning Musume into legendary JPop status, but also sent Maki Goto on a surprise idol rise. She quickly became one of the most popular members of the group, and her popularity got so big, that, in 2001, she"graduated" from Morning Musume, to focus on solo material. Her solo debut album, "Makking Gold 1", reached number 4 on the Oricon charts, and sold over 100,000 copies, becoming her best selling album to date. Starting around the early 2000's, Maki became a popular target for controversy, and often broke tabloid news. She decided to put her solo career on hold in early 2012, which she is still on today.
