Australian pop singer and former tv actress Kylie Minogue has undergone somewhat of a resurgence in recent years, as she's demonstrated a
Madonna-like knack for total re-invention, even mirroring Madonna's move to dancefloor pop in the late 90s.

Australian pop singer and former tv actress Kylie Minogue has undergone somewhat of a resurgence in recent years, as she's demonstrated a
Madonna-like knack for total re-invention, even mirroring Madonna's move to dancefloor pop in the late 90s.
She shot to fame in the late 80s in Aussie soap Neighbours, and her vocal talent was quickly noticed and exploited by British songwriting
and production company Stock, Aitken and Waterman, who signed the young singer in 1987. She had hits in the following years with 'I
Should Be So Lucky', 'Especially For You'(with boyfriend Jason Donovan) 'The Loco-Motion' among others, but by 1992 she had become tired
of the teenage pop market and decided to split from the company.
The 1990s were a dry period for Kylie, as critics and pop audiences alike rejected her, but collaborations with M People, the Pet Shop Boys
and Nick Cave (on the classic 'Where The Wild Roses Grow') demonstrated a musical maturity. The latter became a fan after hearing 'Better
The Devil Know', maintaining it "contained one of pop music's most violent and depressing lyrics."
In 2000, a collaboration with Guy Richie and Robbie Williams on her album Light Years launched Kylie straight back into the spotlight,
with smash hits 'Spinning Around' and 'Kids', a duet with Williams himself. The success continued, peaking with the single 'Can't Get You Out
Of My Head' from the album Fever, which will go down in history as the song of Summer 2001. 2003's Body Language
proved to be something of an anti-climax, delivering no hit single comparable to 'Can't Get You...' or 'Spinning Around'.
As of 2002, Kylie Minogue had sold over 40 million singles and 25 million albums worldwide, achieving Number One status in 45 countries. In
2005, she was unfortunately diagnosed with breast cancer, for which she is currently undergoing treatment. « hide |
