Insomnium
Death Metal, Progressive

Insomnium is a melodic death metal band from Finland, influenced by doom metal, playing songs about sorrow, death, and loss. They also incorporate elements of northern Folk music and Symphonic music into their sound. Insomnium is supposed to be a word pertaining to dreams, with various interpretations of its meaning. They also incorporate elements of northern Folk music and Symphonic music into their sound. Insomnium is supposed to be a word pertaining to dreams, with various interpretations of its meaning. Insomnium's sound has grown into even slower and more progressive death metal during the years, with occasional doom metal influences (some of their influences reflect an approach to metal similar to Amorphis's Tales from the Thousand Lakes album). The original hallmarks of the band's Scandinavian melodic death metal are very scarce, as the band has turned into a more epic approach. The melodies are highly melancholic, and the overall sound is much darker. The band's lyrics tend to be influenced (and occasionally taken) from classic poets like Hölderlin, Edgar Allan Poe, Finnish classic Eino Leino and other literature.

Insomnium is: Niilo Sevanen (vocals, bass guitar); Ville Friman,(guitar) Ville Vanni (guitar); Markus Hirvonen (drums). « hide
