Momentary darlings of the British music press, Hard-Fi were formed in Staines, Surrey, UK, by singer-songwriter Richard Archer, guitarist Ross Phillips, drummer Steve Kemp and bassist Kai Stevens. They self-produced a mini-album entitled Stars Of CCTV in a disused mini-cab office and opted returned there when Atlantic Records agreed to patronise a full LP release. The ill-health and eventual passing of Richard Archer's mother delayed the band's progress but the band has finally bounced back with favourable reviews and a support slot in the US with Green Day.
