Gösta Berlings Saga was formed in 2004 by Alexander Skepp (Drums), David Lundberg (Fender Rhodes), Gabriel Hermansson (Bass) and
Mathias Danielsson (Guitars).
The band recorded and released their debut album “Tid Är Ljud” on the Swedish label Transubstans records in 2006. Shortly after the
recording Mathias left, and was replaced by Einar Baldursson, leading to a more dissonant and dark path for GBS. The album received very
good press and led to numerous gigs all over Sweden and Europe.
With Einar on board GBS started writing material for their second full length album entitled “Detta Har Hänt”. The material for this disc was
more complex, varied and above all darker than the material on the debut. The album was recorded during the end of 2008 in the band’s own
studio Pelikaan, with overdubs recorded at Roth Händle Studios owned by Mattias Olsson. It was released in June 2009 (also on
Transubstans records) and was nominated to the P3 Gold award (Swedish National Radio’s premier music price). The album also led to more
gigs in Sweden and even more so in Europe (The Netherlands, Finland, Denmark etc.), and a scheduled appearance at the NEARfest festival
in June 2011, being the first overseas appearance for the band.
During the summer of 2010 thoughts of a third album started to take shape at the GBS camp, and this time around, the band was entering
the project as an even more musically confident and well-oiled quartet. Material was written, and Mattias Olsson was brought in to record,
produce and mix the whole thing. For this album the band signed a contract with Cuneiform records to be able to spread their music even
further. The album, entitled “Glue Works” has more of a give and take approach to recording than their earlier works. Instrumentally much
more captivating, with all kinds of unforgettable sounds the songs expands the bands musical universe even further. Compositionally the
songs have become both more straight forward and more multifaceted when it’s called for. « hide |
