El Grupo Nuevo de Omar Rodriguez Lopez, as it's name implies, is an entirely new band organized by The Mars Volta
guitarist. The band is a collaboration between members of Hella and several others from The Mars Volta. The line-up
consists of Omar Rodríguez-López on guitar, Zach Hill on drums, Jonathan Hischke on synth bass, and Juan Alderete on
bass guitar. Additionally, Cryptomnesia features the vocals of guest frontman Cedric Bixler-Zavala on eight of the album’s
eleven tracks. Rodriguez-Lopez completed the album in 2006, shortly after finishing The Mars Volta’s Amputechture.
