Derek Sherinian is often known as the former keyboardist from Dream Theater, as well as a prominent tour artist with Billy Idol, Yngwie Malmsteen, Kiss, and Alice in Chains. He is often recalled for his 'guitar' like approach to playing the keyboard, leaning it sideways and moving it alongside him while performing. His main band project is the instrumental progressive metal band Planet X, featuring drummer Virgil Donati. He also formed an acclaimed side project with John Myung of Dream Theater entitled Platypus.
