The Thickets are one of the more interesting bands in modern pop-punk, hailing from Western Canada and sticking to independent label because of their out-there sound.
They started out as a quartet of art students who having fun with playing music, and eventually became a full-fledged geek rock band with lyrics centering on the works of horror writer H.P. Lovecraft.
They've only released a few albums as the members are all very busy with other aspects of their artistic careers, but each one has a lot of high quality songs on it.
The other strength to this band is their live show. They play small venues as if they were stadiums and are never seen on-stage without a plethora of bizarre costumes. Where else are you going to see a band with a singer dressed as a giant lobster, a guitarist dressed as Han Solo, a bassist in cultist robes, and a Hopi Indian behind the drum kit? « hide
