Coilguns

Coil gun: A projectile accelerator which utilizes electromagnetic coils to discharge a projectile(s) at extremely high velocity.

La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. While most people from this town spend their lives handcrafting complicated mechanisms for use in luxury watches, Coilguns have been busy crafting complex mechanisms of their own.

Writing began while Jona was in exile in the United States. The project had been in mind for some time and with 3 tracks written, Jona naturally looked to Luc and Louis, rhythm section in The Ocean to complete the bands line up.

Recording began in Artefact Studio in Le Locle (CH) on the 12th of January and with the help of Steve Notari , a healthy dose of Mauritian Rum, Swiss Absinth and Green the band began their journey. Over the next few days the band recorded live in order to preserve the raw power and authenticity of the project.

Through the green haze emerged 3 tracks as brutal as a kick in the balls, Raw as an open wound, yet as tight as a Swiss watch.

Mixed and mastered by Franck Hueso (Hacride), This first EP has been released as a split with Luc and Louis noise. rock/performance duo project KUNZ. A first Handmade edition was released in 4 different colors limited to 150 pieces each. Quickly they signed on Berlin based label Pelagic records and a Digipack version of the split has been released in september 2011.

After the recording of the split, Louis decided to quit the bass in order to focus on vocals and crowd fighting. From then on, the band would not have a bass player anymore. To solve this issue, Jona found the solution: having a ridiculous ammount of guitar and bass amps, cabinets and a huge custom pedal board to allow him to sound like 2 guitar players and a bass player.

Adept of the DIY logic, unpatient and also hyperactive Coilguns already recorded and released a second EP with 30 minutes worth of music. "Stadia Rods" has been recorded in one day, mixed and mastered by Julien Fehlmann in a few hours. 30 minutes of live violence were released on march 15th 2012 through UK’s finest DIY label Dead Dead Dead Music on a 12’’ vinyl and in a handmade cd version through the band.

June 2012, while the band was playing a couple of shows in Australia, they received an e-mail from long time friends NVRVD from Germany asking if they would like to take part in a split album. Coilguns obviously accepted and a week later they booked the YOYO studio in Perth, Australia with Adam Round. After 4 live takes of each song, a new ep was born. This last piece of spontaneous violence will come out on a 10’’ vinyl and in fancy A5 cd version. This release will also be the first one featuring HUMMUS RECORDS, a new label created by guitarist Jona Nido.

Right after getting back from Australia, the band had the chance to support Baroness, Norma Jean, Darkest Hour on selected shows and recently got offered to follow grind legend Nasum on 3 dates of their Farewell Tour 2012, main support being Black Breath. This comes as a bonus to the previous support of The Dillinger Escape plan, The Ocean or festivals where the band has performed next to international acts like Napalm Death, Sleep, Agnostic Front, The Secret, A Storm Of Light.

Citing bands like Converge, Dillinger Escape Plan, Cursed,Breach or Botch, Coilguns live up to their name delivering sonic projectiles at extremely high velocity. « hide
