Claude Debussy

Born in Saint-Germain-en-Laye in 1862, Debussy became one of the most important figures of the Impressionist movement, and was among the most influentials figures in music as the 19th century gave way to the 20th. He was noted for his piano music, and he remains a central figure in the piano repertoire today, although his most famous works are the orchestral La Mer, Nocturnes, and Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune. The latter of those pieces was later attributed by Pierre Boulez as the start of modern music.
