Caravan

Caravan are one of the groups that emerged after the break-up of The Wilde Flowers and are commonly known as one of the best Canterbury Scene bands. Former The Wilde Flowers-members David Sinclair (keyboards, organs), Richard Sinclair (bass), Pye Hastings (guitar, vocals) and Richard Coughlan (drums) formed Caravan in January 1968, but the line up should last only to their third and most famous studio album "In the Land of Grey and Pink" in 1971. Afterwards the band was dominated by constant member changes with Pye Hastings and Richard Coughlan remaining as the only constant members until today - the band still gives live shows now.

They play Progressive Rock with a leaning towards Jazz Fusion and an emphasis on improvised solos and jams. On "For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night" Caravan first integrated a whole orchestra in their compositions. « hide
