Brother Ali was born Ali Newman in Madison, Wisconsin. At age 15, he moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where he mixed into the developing
hip hop scene. He quickly became friends with Slug from Atmosphere and signed onto his Rhymesayers Entertainment record label. Brother Ali
doesn't fit the quintessential rapper stereotype, in fact, he is albino. Ali writes about what makes him different in many of his tracks, most
notably the hit "Forest Whitiker".
