Backstreet Boys

Formed between 1992 and 1993, Backstreet Boys are an all-male singing group, consisting of members Nick Carter, A.J. McLean (12 and 14 when they joined the band), Howie Dorough, Kevin Richardson and Brian Littrell. Formed in America, though the majority of their success has come overseas, primarily in Europe, the group has the distinction of being the most successful boy band on record, despite having released only four albums proper.

Their first two releases, 'Backstreet Boys' and 'Millennium', have sold a combined 63 million copies, and subsequent releases 'Black & Blue' and 'Never Gone' have achieved multi-platinum status worldwide. Singles 'Quit Playin' Games (With My Heart),' 'Everybody (Backstreet's Back),' 'All I Have To Give,' and 'I Want It That Way' all went platinum between 1997 and 1999 and, although their popularity has declined from its zenith, the band again received a platinum award for 'Incomplete' in 2005.

The group's greatest hits collection, entitled 'The Hits: Chapter One,' was released against the band's wishes in 2001 and wasn't toured, as the group were on an extended hiatus. They returned in 2005 with 'Never Gone,' for which they are currently on tour as of December 2005.
