Aficionado began playing together in 2004. We set out to do something different. Almost 5 years later, we're still here, still doing something different.

With roots in punk and indie rock, initially the band's vision was a little more aggressive and straight forward. However, during the first couple years, mostmembers got pretty heavy into 70's era progressive rock, drawing a great deal of influence from bands such as Yes, Kansas, and King Crimson; whodemonstrated that instrumentation and song structure can be out-of-the-ordinary, and songs can be musically complex, but the music can still listenableand enjoyable. With these influences in mind, the band headed in a more progressive and experimental direction. People tend to like when you can givesomething a label, so i guess you could call it "progressive-indie".

Without taking away from the intensity of the music, Aficionado began incorporating unconventional instrumentation such as flutes, horns, & mandolininto the songs. These instruments were added to compliment the already epic, over-the-top nature of the band's sound. Also backing up their big sound ,is a theatrical and energetic live performance, something the band has prided itself on from the very beginning.
