The Meters Funk |
One of the mainstays of the New Orleans Funk Movement, The Meters were formed in 1966, originally called 'Art Neville and the Sounds', on being signed they renamed to The Meters and were made up of Art Neville (piano/organ/keyboards), Leo Nocentelli (guitar), Joseph 'Zigaboo' Modeliste (drums) and George Porter (bass).
Noted for playing tight, syncopated funk, they were the house band for the label Sansu Enterprise and as such appeared on many recordings, whilst simultaneously releasing albums of their own.

After releasing 3 albums they switched to Reprise records for 1972's release 'Cabbage Alley'. Although they never had any huge hits, they received greater awareness from the public at this point and maintained their reputation as an excellent live act.
